And for Christmas the family got me a bunch of Amazon gift cards, so today the box truck fairy arrived. Looks like I got some fun this weekend!

Thanks Ed! Hope to get it in this weekend along with the new rear hatch struts.

62 mirrors were a fluke thing. Guy on the forum contacted TallCanDan about them to see if Dan wanted them. He already had a set but remembered I was looking for them and sent the guy my way. OEM with some bubbling of the chrome (which is fine, they are getting plasti-dipped) for $100 to my door!

dang dude, looking good! I still want to see your cruiser and need to make time for a meeting again in reno.

Ok just to confirm. This is the tranny fluid level check point right?

Yeah that is what I figured but ends up being a much larger socket then I have... Looks to be 22mm if not larger as largest I have is a 21mm.

Oh and saw your truck this weekend... Love the duct tape rust/dent fix! LOL

Tools are a great thing and a PITA for the lack thereof sometimes.. I lucked into a set of larger metric and SAE socket set years ago and I hold on to them for the "just in case @*$^ happens" I have the right tool moment..

I used a 12" crescent wrench in a bind one time.. Just make sure its a good fit or you'll round the plug/nut/head.. Been there.. done that too...

Yeah I ran to Lowe's after the gym to grab a couple things... 17mm crows foot, 22mm socket and 24mm socket. All in hopes that I would be able to get under the truck and check the fluid and be able to actually call my desmog officially DONE (my air rail is still on there).

Well 17mm crows foot did not work, looks like the $%*#@ is rusted on there so I ended up cutting that last pipe with my dremel. Great so 4 of the air rail plugs came out just fine, the last two are a different story. So they will soak in some PBBlaster for the night and I will hit it up tomorrow.

I did however get the rear glass struts replaced today, amazing to be able to pull on it to open and have the top go all the way up even when it is cold (it was all of 40* when I did it)!!! New smittybilt console is in there and trying to devise a way to make the cup holders better.

Oh and I replaced the damn AC Idler pulley bearing FINALLY too. Now let's see how everything works out tomorrow when she is back together.

Hahaha, almost matches the paint huh?

Luckily for me, rust takes a VERY long time to form where I live, so any that is there was pretty much from the weekend at TNS in pismo this year. (I got a dent on the 45 run in August and it didn't develop surface rust until Nov at pismo!)

And success!!! The final two air rail valves came out.. One took some BFH persuasion and the other was actually so rusted to the air rail (the one I cut last night) that it actually broke loose before the nut connecting the air rail did.

Got all the plugs in and then buttoned her up. Amazingly 4 of the valves were so loose in the block they must have been causing a vacuum leak (they unscrewed with just my hands) as she seems to idle much smoother and runs a bit better now.

Now I am going to take a look at replacing the damn lower tailgate!

Oh and the drain/fill plug for the tranny is a 24mm but looks like I am going to have to hit mine with some PBBlaster. And anyone now what size the bolts are the hold up the skid plate under the the tranny? Apparently mine was only held on with two bolts (one on either side) and the rest were rusted and snapped off in the holes.

I'm pretty sure they are either 13mm or 15mm. I want to say 15 though.

I just desmoged my 62 last week and the air rail and injectors were definitely the hardest part and the biggest PITA

They are 8x1.25 for both applications. Anything over 20mm long will work.

Sweet thanks boys... The real task is going to be getting it so I can either drill those old ones out and retap or see if I can extract them. With the amount of surface rust I have I am thinking that the drill out and retap is going to be the key.

Weld a nut onto the bolt if there is enough sticking out or burn it with an acetylene torch to free it from rust or other crap. I gotta do that too since I sheared a bolt head off my fram too
