Thanks J, I will call you later today...
For the welding gas, I am looking for CO2/Argon mix right? Or should I just ask for MIG welding gas when I go into the store? I know dumb questions!! LOL

Why not just replace the tailgate?!

I've got a couple of rust free ones at the shop ......

Georg @ Valley Hybrids

Ok, I'm off today so I banged out a mock up patch to show you G. Since I don't have a 60 anymore () I had to go off the pic for reference but I bet its CLOSE!!

Start with a piece of sheet..

Then bend a sharp edge for the top..

P1030041.webp

Then a smoother bend on the flip side..

P1030043.webp

AND TAH DAH!!!!!

P1030044.webp

Spot weld it in as we have discussed before and then prime and Monstaliner it..

Or as Georg states.. buying one may be easier, but I know you wanna learn the welding aspect..

J

Thanks Georg, definitely want to learn the welding aspect and really the rest of the tailgate is in great shape so no real need other than that one section. But I will keep that in mind!

Thanks for the pics J, I really appreciate it. Definitely gives me a good idea of what I need to do! Think I might have to go buy a bit bigger sheet as the one I got was only like 5x12 and that was enough to cover just the whole. Oh well, scrap metal for me to practice on!!

G,

Call me...

Some 16/18 gauge steel, a hammer (and a slight rounded edge to shape with) and bend a piece to match.. Take your time and you will get it pretty close.

Or call Jason at CruiserYard for a patch piece.. :grinpimp:

J
Or I might be able to cut you a patch piece from Betsy...

And doorless now!!

Well if you want to go with a tailgate from georg I can grab it next time im by georgs shop or anything else you need for that matter...

Actually Finny and I are working something out for Betsy's lower tailgate. So no worries dude but thanks for the offer (not like you need another reason to go to Georg's!!)

Looks like you and Darrel had fun in Holister this weekend. Wondering if I can get the wife to let me ride out there with Black Betty and play while we are in Carmel for Thanksgiving!!

Hit me up! Ill try and make it if you go, and yeah ill be doing a mega update on mine and you can see my newet body damage and how close I got to rolling yet again. Haha this last stop at georgs netted me some sliders and a set of corbeau race seats

Good call! You have to pick your battles ....... but the old tailgate will make a great "donor". Use it to practice your welding.

Georg @ Valley Hybrids

Thanks Georg I will definitely be using it for some practice as I learn to weld on this thin sheet metal! Now to grow the "confidence" to take on the wheel wells. If I could find a good condition drivers side door like with Finny's lower tailgate that would be stellar! But one step at a time (before the wife kills me!)

I have doors also ........ :grinpimp:

As for the sheet metal welding, get some practice and use thin welding wire, maybe .025 but not .035

Georg @ Valley Hybrids

Yeah I believe .025 is what I have on the machine right now, just ran out of welding gas so need to go swap cylinders but that will have to wait until after Turkey Day. Will definitely have to talk with you about the door, drivers door is really the only one that is bad (LOTS of bondo on the bottom).

Got to love awesome neighbors!!!! Just got an early Christmas present!!
So got a call from an older neighbor down the street and he asks me if I have any use for a Yakima rack and basket? I tell him, well yeah if it is gutter mount as my truck will only take gutter mounts. So he tells me to come over and check it out. Ends up to be two sets of towers with bars and locks and a small basket the went between them from an old truck of his. He said it has been collecting dust in his garage for a few years and figured I could use it.

Price... FREE!!!!
So BeBe has a new rack!!

TEASE!!

Sorry guys, was only about 10* last night when I was trying to install, and maybe 25* in my garage so I got it on as quick as possible. One of the cross bars is bent but that is ok with me. Think I am going to start hunting ebay for another set of towers and a bar to make three and see about welding up a flat rack this spring! Still got to replace the tailgate with the one that Finny got to me!

Oh and he called me right after I post this and told me he found the old ski rack attachment for it so he would give that to me as well. I dont ski or snowboard (wife ski's) so he said to use it as a fly rod holder!

Alright so been all over the place lately... Haven't spent any time with the cruiser other than the commute in the morning (which normally I would ride to work because it is above 25* in the morning but not motivated this year for many reasons, last 6 months just plain sucked family-wise).

Anyways, got a question regarding choke cable and what not.
So normally when I start the truck up I only pull the choke out 2 clicks because if I pull it all the way out it stumbles real bad.

With the 2 clicks out it normally takes 4 or 5 turns (pumping gas like 3-5 times each) to finally get her to fire up and idle (this is with most mornings being the mid 20s). This morning I randomly pulled the choke all the way out and she fired up on the first try to my amazement. Still stumbled real bad but I gave it a minute and then pushed in to 2 click position and let her warm up for a good 20 minutes (like normal).

So why am I stumbling so bad with the choke all the way out? Is it because I am using the lower BVSV on my desmog or something else?

Working half day today so going to try and repair my rear defogger with the line paint and see if I can get that to work. Really don't want to spend money on a new rear glass. Then got to figure out what I want to use my Amazon GC money on... Thinking either new lens for my new EOS-M or going with Smittybilt console (leaning towards the console). :bounce:
