bought some Monoprice 5.1 surround sound speakers for a client on amazon and the quality was OUTSTANDING for the price. Apples/oranges, but that's my experience with the brand.

I used this one in my wife's 4Runner for 6months or so. Still works but the outlets are not fitting the charger wire snugly anymore. You have to wiggle it around a little to get it to charge. For light use I think it would work great. If your like my wife and use it every time you get in the car you may have trouble.

@CRSHR, thanks for the heads up. I usually just leave the cable plugged into it and don't mess with it. It was a cheap solution to free up the cig port for other uses. I even moved my GPS to a hidden port I installed in the driver kick panel area... Power port solutions are always welcome.

Never piggy-back a device fused circuit. Fuse block is best. If you have nothing else needing to be wired then sure, run to battery and fuse at the battery.

Also keep in mind, if you direct wire then it means it's always a hot circuit. If something is plugged in it will be charging with the truck on or off.

I got the Blue Sea 1045 and put it in in place of the 12v socket. Really happy with it, charges quickly and looks clean.

No, the units being described output 5V for USB charging. So, their output is NOT a direct connection back to the battery. You would need a dumb cig lighter that is permanently wired to the battery to do that. Of course at that point you would want something better than a stupid cig lighter anyway...

OK So I just called Blue Sea and talked with the designer of the 1039. The prototype models along with the first released pictures had the light. All production models have NO light Also I verified it is chipped to work with the latest Apple products to provide the faster charging available. Ya Blue Sea Ordered Now I can get away from the old under powered style with a little green light.

What kind of amps do the latest apple products you're charging pull? I have a Nexus phone that can charge at 3A but haven't found a car charger that will go beyond 2.1A

Yes, of course if you put a series switch and flip it off, then nothing will flow downstream...

Would be interesting for someone (that knows how) to measure the actual quiescent current draw of the bluesea unit. I've seen 'nameless' USB charger products that claim 1 to 2ma actually draw 15ma or more. Would be nice to verify that the bluesea spec is accurate.

Even 15mA isn't too horrible, even 1 week is only 0.015 x 24 x 7 = 2.5 AHr. Just a pain if you have a couple of them and then leave your vehicle for a month or so while out of the country... along with other things that are drawing their own 10 - 20mA... and so on...
