Fed up with your crappy 80 series battery mount? LCP has a fix

When I installed this kit I welded a piece of 3" angle iron to J hook closest to back of the box, the front one I welded a piece flat metal about the size of a quarter that fits up inside the area were it come through the box.
I did this because I run a 80 lb battery and wanted to make sure it stays in place ;)
It's been installed over two years with out issue.

I was thinking of doing something similar. Thanks for confirming that it works!

Any pics for the visual kind? :geek: thanks

I don't have any at this time, and you can't see them with battery installed.
I well have the battery out in a couple of weeks for another project I can get some pictures then if that not to late

i'm not quite following the install or what is in the template. one link goes to a 404 error and the d/l (on my phone at least) is not working.
would it be helpful to post a pic of the template even though it won't print to size just so people can see what it is?
also the red cable just gets secure to the battery box to relieve stress on the fusible link and so you don't have to thread it through the hole in the box i guess?
but no magic as to where you locate it i suppose...

The PDF is on this page. His link on his original post is dead, that is correct.

There is no magic to the cable. You are correct.

hi george. thanks. for some reason my browser wasn't pulling up the website.
i'm not following the install on the hooks for the battery i guess. what is the procedure please? not sure what i am missing.
<edit: i guess you just drill into the fiberglass and stick the L end of the bracket in and orient it whichever way makes the most sense.
i'd go ahead and add washers to the underside next time by pulling the box and drilling it and just adhesive sticking them to the bottom of the box. that way you won't damage the fiberglass if you over tighten.
also i'd just measure the holes with a tape. i'm not sure why it doesn't come with a template if you need to print a template but putting some masking tape where the hole is going to be and measuring if you have the dimensions is probably easier and cleaner IMHO.

my understanding is yes, the replacement hooks still only grab the box itself. they add more flexibility for batteries of various sizes.

but what do the green circles indicate? my template doesn't put the drill marks anywhere close to those green circles?

if anyone can confirm dimensions i can draw this up. looks like about 5" from "top right" corner then 1/2" down and then also 7 1/4" down for the second hole.
one thing you want to take into consideration is you don't want to locate the holes dead center of your battery because that may put the bracket right over the hole in the box for the negative cable. you can see where i did this.
also i would use masking tape to mark a hole and use some kind of tool to get a slight divot started in the fiberglass. also be gentle. it's fiberglass.
you also want to make sure you can locate the L bracket at a flat spot. i tore the fiberglass where i put it first since it was digging into an angled area and i must have tightened it too much.
so you can see i moved the hole at the front to a flat spot instead of what is shown. i'm not totally sure how you angle the L if that original location is at an angled spot on the fiberglass.
also drilling at an angle into fiberglass is not going to go well in that tight space. it's just going to wander around and scratch things up. so mark at a flat spot.
you can kind of see in the detail image where i located mine. i'll probably go back in and add two washers underneath and i'd recommend it. actually you could probably just use the ones supplied and find two more for the top later now that i think about it.

Interesting. When I print the template at 100%, it puts both holes on angled parts of the box.

Looks like you drilled the rear hole on the flat part. But I can't quite tell about the front. But looks like yours lines up with the green circles?

i don't understand why a template isn't just sent out with the parts.
don't go into the angled area. just think about it. they are L shaped hooks. going into an L shaped area means they will dig into it or angle sideways just adjacent to the angled side of the box doing nothing or hang out in the air.
also how do you know how much tension to put on the bolts to secure it? i tore into the fiberglass of the box and i am a bit pissed about it actually. also it should be clear why you need to use those locations or if there are alternate locations. it's not clear.
anyway if i were you i would go "lower left" of the flat area here.
oh, don't forget to secure the ground at the body before you put a big battery back in.
i have a series 31 and i have a lift so i was up on a milk crate lifting that ****ing thing in and out three ****ing times in the dark trying to not scratch my paint when i should have been on the lounger sipping a scotch.
also if you pull the box you can put washers at the base of the hooks and you don't have to worry about them digging into your beautiful fiberglass box.
also make sure you have a deep socket for the nuts. it's ****ed up trying to use a wrench in there when the socket won't reach the nuts.
let me know.

Dam, this is not rocket science. It's a battery hold down, drill a couple of hole and bolt it down EASY PEASY !!!!

I did not even use the template, put the bracket on the battery where you like it and drill ;) 🤷‍♂️

what this should have said, I welded a 1/2" x 3" long angle iron to the J hook 🤷‍♂️

Anyone know the best way to get a hold of Phil? No contact info on his site and I sent a PM on here a couple weeks ago that hasn't been read.

I don't want to pester him but I'd really like to get this in hand or at least on the way.
