Picked up a Tom Woods driveshaft and am rebuilding the transfer case with new bearings. It leaked from every joint and had some output shaft play

New head arrived. 2mm thicker walls and Jim mentioned it will flow better than the first iteration. Next few weeks will be putting everything back together

Went with a permatex copper spray on a cometic MLS again with 90ft lbs on the ARPs. Hopefully the last time I will be doing this...

Was the cometic to dial in the compression ratio?

No, still 0.040 thick gasket. CR is around 9.3.

Cometic/MLS holds high boost better if the head lifts

Back into its home.. A bit easier to put in when the truck isn't outside and snowing.

Exhaust side left and finishing the transfer case rebuild

For some reason, I found rebuilding my transfer case to be a very satisfying job.

Chinese ultrasonic cleaner at it again.

Needle bearings replaced- read a good tip to use the counter shaft as your bearing press tool that worked well.

Starting reassembly

Cracked head and rebuilt transfer case.
I think the transmission will need some attention in the future...

What do you think of that Harbor Freight tranny jack?
Good for a one man job without a lift for getting it on and off. It leaks a bit but the tilt functions are nice for lining up the splines. I used it for rebuilding my H2AV too.

Gone are the days when I could bench press a Honda B series transmission into place

I get that. There was a time when I could lay on my back and stuff a differential into the axle housing. Not any more.

Coming together... Tom Woods driveshaft along with the new bearings to fix the shakes.

Fluids, port the wastegate, fuel pump left

20mm ID
28mm poppet

Going to take 2mm extra out and go to a 24mm ID and also open up the turbine a bit to allow a better turn.

2mm may not sound like a lot but if the discharge coefficient stays the same (i plan on making it better with the turbine porting) the flow area increases from 314mm2 to 452mm2— a 42% increase.

We'll see what min boost is. If it's still crazy I will just add more exhaust back pressure

Need to run to the auto parts store for more coolant and put the hood on. Should be out of the garage tomorrow

It runs and is running lean, so head flow has improved which is nice but I have to redo fuel maps. Adding 5% VE and running rich, letting auto tune take the fuel away

Still need to pull the bed off and install the walbro fuel pump
