Quick update: Just got the call from Engineered Applications. The exhaust manifolds will be ready on Tuesday and the cost is $180. The manifolds are cleaned and sandblasted first then coated. I went with the chrome-like finish vs. going with the satin. There is also a black finish option but its only 1mil thick vs. 3mm on either silver options. BUT, the heat shields will be getting the black treatment. Can't wait to see them.

Also, going to Magnuson Monday to drop off the supercharger.

Had some time during the Super Bowl (not a football fan) so I finally cleaned up the intake canister as best I could. For this project all I needed was a pair of scissors and the gold heat shielding tape that FIRSTTOY and others have used. The only problem is I only bought one roll thinking it was enough. It needs two. Boo.

Pretty simple really. Just start from the bottom and continue moving upwards. This keeps water from getting trapped if water is present. Pics should tell the story.

Why not go new short block since it seems like you will likely keep your rig for ever.

Hey NLXTACY, I was down at RC engineering dropping off my injectors today and heard that another Landcruiser guy dropped off his air intake manifold to get it bored out. Was that you? Glad to see things are coming along. Look forward to seeing the rest of the progress.

Yup that was me. After talking to John Park at RC Eng. he actually said that he wouldn't recommend the new bore because I'm not a drag racer. He said I would only feel the extra power at mid and top end. I originally wasn't going to go thru with it. But decided that the only way to know if it works is to try it since no one else has. It's also an easy swap it it proves to be a dumb decision. He also cleans he hell out of it along with the bore. So I went with it.

I'm not an 80s guy so 'splain me why the heat shield tape on the air box?

The heat shielding has been shown to reduce temperatures inside the air filter canister. The idea is to reduce the intake temperatures as much as possible. The under hood temps heat up the air in the intake so the tape helps.

Are you planning on installing a dedicated IAT sensor in your rig to work with your multi-gauge? It would be interesting to see what sort of temps you are pulling. I have one in my Audi, and can easily see what IAT starts to induce pinging in that rig (over 150F). Have not installed one in the Cruiser yet, as I have never had it ping under boost.

Yes, I bought a set of exhaust manifolds that had the ports pre drilled on both sides. They are being ceramic coating right now.

NLXTACY....what was the cost of the getting the exhaust manifolds ceramic coated and did you have to do any prep work?

S%#@! Where were your cracks? I need to get mine checked before I do any more work to it.

I will try and get picks but they connect to at least one of the valve seats which generally isn't repairable on an aluminum head. Pressure testing is typically how you find these issues. For a cast iron head you would magnaflux it.

It was $180 for the set. It would drop to about $140 for a set if I did the intake and exhaust at the same time but I wasn't ready to do the intakes.

They say don't bother with any prep because they do it all. I even kept the heat shields on it. The manifolds will be silver while the shields will be ceramic black...just for looks really. :grinpimp:

Who is doing the work?

Actually I did read the whole thread...a few times. However I completely missed that. Thanks.

I am looking into using an outfit called Jet-Hot? I have a quote request into them.

In regards to your taping up of the air cleaner housing, did you ever look into getting that ceramic coated or is the metal to thin to handle it?

I thought about jet hot but I didn't want to ship it and it was more expensive. But not by much really. You can't coat the intake canister because Toyota uses an epoxy on it that won't survive the process. Or so I'm told
