I'm not sure what you mean about not matching the original. They look pretty close to me if done well. One of these is a aqualu tub, one isn't. I guess if your doing a nut n bolt all original restoration it makes a difference. But if you just want a solid cruiser a aqualu works great.View attachment 2170994View attachment 2170996

Quick look at the two pictures I would say the top one is aluminum.

Ok, thanks.

Anyone have any experience with CCOT products? I'm looking at a pair of front fenders and they seem to have a good price on them.

You should call Aqualu directly for the tub. They are also located in British Columbia, Canada. A few hours north of EBI. I have dealt with both EBI and Aqualu in the past when I restored my 40.

Steve at EBI is a good guy and helped me out a lot on my build.

The folks at Aqualu where amazing to deal with back when I ordered my stretched tub. Wouldn't esitate for a second to deal with them directly and the price might be better ordering directly.

When attaching the Aqualu tub to the stock steel cowl, you make sure to prime and paint both matting surfaces. Aqualu provides a tub of sealant that you apply generously before bolting things together. Mines has been together for 6-7 years now and zero issues.

I will be going with the Aqualu 43 tub this summer. One thing that I didn’t like was the missing ribs in the sheet metal.
I have started working on making a set of “false” ribs for the wheel wells.
They will be a polymer and attached via industrial adhesive.
The floors will be carpeted so no need there.
at a glance it will look stock. :)

Now that's an interesting idea. Keep me informed as how you do this. Other option is to just carpet the whole tub.

I would check with Steve on the fenders. He had a set of new OE units on hand a few years ago that i bought. It may be worth a few bucks to go stock and ensure the fit and finish is correct.

Kind of what I'm thinking. Thanks.

Stock fenders all the way!! Glad i started hoarding sets a few years ago

Ok, ordered the aluminum tub from Steve - EBI today. Cost was $3270 plus $665 for shipping.

Impact wrench arrived today, so can bust the remaining bolts free tomorrow. Don't ask why I never had one of these earlier. Still waiting on spot weld cutter. In the meantime, removed all the caulking from the roof and started removing rivets. Ugh! Got tired of that after awhile and started back on the electrical. Oh my, this will require work and lots of patience. Cut wires dangling, splices and multiple wire connections onto a single wire. Somehow I don't think that's what Toyota originally did. Tongue in cheek joke. :)

Anyone interested in photos of the project as I progress? I'm probably going to start taking them just to document the work.

As a side note, I had contacted TROA early on for their 1/2 Tub. I could have purchased all kinds of parts for what they were going to charge me for freight. I told them no thanks. Got an email from them today. Said CCOT is a reseller of their products and maybe they could ship items cheaper. Interesting. At least now I know where those panels, etc., come from.

Oh, and I've seen others mention the Icon FJ40 including Steve. Sooo, curiosity got the best of me. WOW! And ONLY $198,000 base cost. LOL!!!! Hmmm, I think I'll just stick with my poor little babe and bring her back to life for WAY under that price.

I would like to see photos of your progress. Make sure you get the correct year tub. Ambulance door tubs are different than older non ambulance door tubs.

You made wise choice here!

Yes do a full build thread please
Ok, will do a build photo and narrative as to what I did or did not do. I'm a novice at this, so maybe that'll give others encouragement? I can do body work and paint. LOL!!! Not good at electrical, but will get this mess figured out.

Well, so much for the impact driver. Bolts started coming out and then heads stripped. Now to figure out how to get those last two bolts out. They sit in front of the rear tires on the frame. GRRR!!! Will try chisels in the morning. Sazall won't get into the space.
