ok, here's another that i can't find any previous info on....anyone replaced the rollers on window regulators? my left rear is shattered and the extra one i've got also has a shattered roller? anyone done it before? looks like a shoulder bolt could be used in place of the piece that holds it on. or maybe stick a bolt in and weld it, but that might melt the new roller. need to find a roller that will fit first.

Is this a common failure? I have not had this yet. I imagine that it would be an easy to make part if push comes to shove.

must be somewhat common cause i've got two extra rears and they're both broken also. if anyone has a lag when rolling down the window, i'd check to see if their roller is still there, or if it's rolling off the pin itself.

here's what mine looks like and what it should (except for the broken part) look like.

OK, checked my Dside and it is crapped out ..........looks like the same kind of plastic the tailgate gear is made of :(now the search begins again for substitutes; any ideas from the industrial world?

Howdy! Long time ago I had some luck matching up wheels for drawer pulls from kitchen cabinets, or maybe it was aluminium windows and patio doors. How's that little song go; "Ace is the place"??, or wherever you can find hardware. John

Since were on the subject, anybody know how to secure the glass in the rubber channel of the regulator, my glass will lift one corner causing the glass to tilt and bind up in the track when rolling up or down, it's the rubber weather strip that the botttom of the door glass sit's , and the whole thing rest in the metal lift.

Lou, is that the one I sent you? Paul

Howdy! Do the side windows mount similar to the rear? My back window came out of the track when I worked on it, so I just put some RTV on both sides of the rubber gasket that fits between the track and the glass. John

Reset it with weatherstrip cement.

A while ago we were on a road trip, with the back of the pig completely jammed with enough gear for over a week of exploring. After rattling around for hours in the Mammoth area one of the plastic regulator wheels on the rear window disentigrated. This made the window almost impossible to make it go up or down, so we figured we'd fix it that day.

The rear regulator is the same type of mechanism and I assume the wheel is a very similar diameter as in the doors. What I did was get a plastic sewing/thread spool that a buddy had for tying his own fishing flies. Then I cut a shouldered end off and used that as the regulator wheel. It has been working for years, was the right inner and outer diameter, and was free. The hard part was getting it on the roller pin. To do that, I used a hacksaw to cut a slit halfway through the spool. Since the plastic was a little flexible, I was able to spread the wheel/spool open enough to pop it on. In retrospect, I bet the roller pin comes off easy, I don't know.

For getting the glass to stay put, I had good luck with scrubbing the hell out of everything and using the black 3M weatherstrip adhesive. The most stubborn problems on one of my cruisers has always been windows and regulators.

I just gutted my doors, so I have all the inner parts if you need the rollers. They're in good shape too.

don't need em now :) one side is fixed, got another roller for the other side, and may buy another set of rollers to fix the two leftover regulators that i have.

Yeah. I don't even know if they would work. Ige you have a pic of what they look like from the side. Any measurements? Always up for an internet treasure hunt.
