Anyone do any inshore fishing in their kayak? Hoping to get out after some reds this year.
not after watching that damn video... hell no... ;)

On the boat ride to Bulls Island, SC last year, the captain of the boat (also a certified marine biologist said that in the estuary/tributaries between the boat ramp and the island they identified several different large bull sharks. over 8 ft was what they considered large. The Dolphins that inhabit the estuary would try to team up and drive the shark(s) back out to open water.

Down in the keys, I was fishing at Vaca Cut near Marathon, and a mate from one of the charter boats rode up on a bike, with a bunch of rope, chain, a huge hook, and a 4 ft long barracuda chopped into 1/3rds. He couldnt afford cable, so this was his nighttime entertainment. He would try to hook the large bull sharks that cruised back and forth thru the cut. Largest one he got up to the rocks was about 10+ ft. He saw larger ones too

So got to do a few hours on the lake today realized a few things...
Don’t wrap your thumbs around the paddle if you have bit€h hands, wear water shoes, if your gonna need it keep it arms reach, paddle leashes are important... and water tight box for important things Like phones and wallets.

In the end love this thing....kayak swag in the time to get some overtime.

Question for the masses anyone use a stakeout pole vs a small anchor?

each has its purpose. anchor for deeper water, pole for shallows. Depends on where you fish, and how you fish. We would just try to troll/drift with the wind a lot. I made a pole, and made an anchor trolley system.

and a paddle leash is a wise choice. tether it to the boat, not your wrist if fishing. also, any dry bags/electronics bags...make sure you leave air in them. no sense in having a waterproof bag for your wallet and phone if it sinks down to the bottom of the lake. If its got air in it, it will likely stay buoyant long enough for you to retrieve it.

Don't forget long pants in the sunny weather - prevents some really strange looking sunburns. I like using a medium to large dry bag instead of a box. Takes a little longer to open but also fits my tackle box(es), water bottles, extra clothes, bug spray, etc. I keep it tethered to my leg or the hatch so I can just reach down and pull it to me without having to reach far (stuff loves to disappear into the bow end of a sit-in kayak). Makes loading up and shoving off easier, too, by only having to toss in a single bag, and it'll float if gets away from you somehow or if you want it out of the boat when you climb in so you're not stepping on your gear.

Another "anchoring" option is a spring clamp with a rope attached. Work great when near a shore with overhanging or projecting branches. Just don't tie that one off to your leg.

How was the fishing? Dan river looks nice might have to get out there easy access?

Thanks all for the suggestions I went ahead and ordered a few things for the kayak got a small flotable case, dry bag for the front hatch, some tackle boxes that fit in these molds on the side of my seat and cheap folding anchor, and some sweet zip at the knee pants.

Going to look for a small cooler for the back or a backpack cooler and mount it to the seat.

Fishing was great from The red boat lol
Couole small bass and a boatload of brem.

Access is Limited to public put ins and a few bridges but there are several points along the river. Come on up and we can drop a truck at one of the pull outs. I keep looking at the haw as well but there appear to be some rocky un passable sections further south out by saxapahaw.

Really want to push further north on the Dan up by hanging rock and try the smith river over by eden. this past weekend was a good reminder how slow going it gets when the water gets slow and flat.

Didn't catch a single fish. Brought only larger spinners - the little guys weren't biting on it. saw a MASSIVE white fish (carp possibly) but it didn't bat an eye at my bait. Gotta make some bottle cap spinners :)

I want to get out up there just been limited with free time lately. Hoping to work something out in the next few weeks while my wife still feels bad I haven’t gotten to use the kayak much not sure how long that feeling will last.

Hanging rock seems like a nice spot to go I’d be down to try for a day trip up there I’d just have to leave early in the AM

I’m trying to get some cheap lures and tackle to just leave in the kayak so I will always have alittle bit of selection on impromptu trips

I owe my dad and grandparents a visit with our little one. They all live in Mt Airy, and I was thinking about doing a day trip either the weekend before or after the 4th. Let me know if you want to try and set something up.

I work those weekends might be able to make it out early in the morning but I work at 230 so I’d have to leave alittle early

The only downside with going closer to hanging rock is the tubers. specially over the 4th. The park near the tube rental place was absolutely jam packed.

Is that your retail store/marketplace?

Nice looking boats. Id be game for your straitedge angler pro esp with your spring discount but appears no free shipping half way around the world
Good looking setup though.

Since it was asked earlier .... how do those soft bottom boats handle abrasion/rocks? Or are they meant for calmer environments. They look rather robust.
