Did I do the right thing?

We got back late Wednesday night, and I had couple more packages waiting for me, more on that later.

I drove it to work yesterday and it did fine, but still has a low idle at stops without the A/C on. I got to check the code after work and it had DTC 25 (lean fuel mixture) set. It has a high-pitched noised when accelerating, almost like a vacuum leak, but spraying carb cleaner around the intake didn't show anything. The P/S pump is whining, so that may be what I'm hearing, I'll figure these things out slowly. :D

The first package was the PHH kit.

Then I opened the used passenger headlamp from landcruisnman, but one of the bracket seems to have broken in shipping.:frown:

Here I am holding the piece in place.

Now I either have to epoxy it back together or figure out if the shipping insurance will help me get another one.

That was yesterday, so today I did some stuff with it at home.

More stickers.:bounce:

Yanked the aftermarket alarm that I kept kicking when I hit the brakes, had no remotes so it was basically useless.

Then I seem to have lost something.:D I decided to do this at home so I wouldn't have to haul these big things home from work.

De-running boarded, unstepped, whatever you want to call it.

I like how it cleans things up and give it a different stance. Now I need to decide on de-flaring. :hhmm:

Lookin good! These trucks look like they've lost 1,000 lbs when the running boards are removed.........now, put on the factory front flaps, and leave the flares on the truck. They look their best with flares / no boards

My opinion, of course!

Rig is looking good ... Mine is a 94 also and doesn't have any running boards, and everyone thinks its lifted (it isn't :crybaby:) cause once you take em off, its a huge aesthetic change ...

Nice rig, that is my prefered colour and not the GREEN!!!!!
Dave

..... And mine is "that" GREEN !!!!!! , which I don't care... if it's a landcruiser... any color is gonna look good IMHO.

Cool down...

...sort of.

I got the blue hub fan clutch yesterday and installed it on my lunch break.

On the way home, the A/C stayed cold almost all the way, until I got into town. The temp gauge had stayed just below center, then right at center, and at the first stoplight it started creeping up.
Overall the fan clutch seems to be making a difference, especially on these 102° days.
I still need to replace a bunch of heater hoses, then get the coolant itself up to standard. The funny thing is, I have all the curved hoses already, just need to get some straight hose and the clamps. I'm trying to get Gates Green Stripe, so that's where the delay is.

On another positive note, I went out this evening and pulled the glove box out, found the amplifier and unplugged it. Right away the Scion head unit started putting out good sound on all but the driver's door speaker. Now I can listen to the news (or tunes) on the way to work.

You should look into changing the fluid of the Fan Clutch to 10K or possibly more, I need to this as well for those hot days In Cali!

Still doing the right thing

I haven't updated this in awhile, but that doesn't mean I haven't been working on it, just not reporting on it. ;p

I did take my old Aisin fan clutch (black hub & adjustable) apart and add OEM 10K cst fluid...

...but that's getting ahead of the story. First I replaced (almost) all of the heater hoses with either OEM (curved), silicone (PHH), or Napa Fleet Yellow Stripe (not quite the right name, I'm trying to find the link again).

Pulled the PHH pipe with the help of some very nice tools.
IMG_3840.JPG

The PHH pipe was pretty ugly once I cleaned all the buildup off.
IMG_3844.JPG

Yes, that's light shining through a hole, it had one at each end. Rather than spend the $80+ for a new one, I elected to try and save this one. There is an epoxy called Nu-Metal that seems to work pretty well. Applied the epoxy, smoothed it when wet, then sanded it when dry.

A coat off flat black finishes it off.
One thing I did to try and ease installation was to modify the bracket so it has a slot instead of a hole for the bolt at the back of the manifold. I was able to install the bolt by hand before putting the pipe in the way, but still needed another set of hands to line everything up, and a little bending of the bracket.

Installed!

Nice, just did my FHH and PHH hoses in Samco Silicone the other day.

Looks like its coming along nicely.

Went ahead and got the OEM thermostat also, here's a comparison with the old one on the left, new one on the right.

Refilled with 50/50 mix of Toyota red and distilled water with my handy-dandy Smart Funnel.

Drove home that night, but still seeing the gauge creep up at times.

Notice the missing hub caps? I had a professional paint them for $20, turned out nice.

Finally got it in to the body shop on Wednesday. By yesterday, they had pulled it apart and sanded the clear off the fenders in preparation for painting those and the new hood.

IMG_3975.JPG

They had to do just a little bit of straightening on that front corner, the point just above the marker light.

IMG_3976.JPG

Yes, the flares are off, but only for paint. I'll be getting new rubber pads to put them back on with.

Yes, I do need a new radiator support, but it did not get done at this time.

After straightening the support a little more than I had, they put it back together with the newer broken passenger headlight.
