Find a Scion board and ask them about what amps to use with the radio or if the radio can work with your factroy amp.

Edit: Now that you have a truck again, I guess you are going to have to start making Club meetings :)

de-flared

Macman, it's fairly simple de-flaring the 80. Like most things it's overwhelming until you do it and realize how simple the job is!

Personally I think the rig looks better with flares, but I seem to be in the minority.

Unless you are going to do some serious wheeling where you will end up tearing them off the fenders against your will, I'd keep 'em on.

I'm with you on the flares.

I'm still up in the air on the flares myself. I like the look of black with the red, so I'd either do the black liner material if they come off, or go ahead and put some flat black on the flares.
I've also been looking at lots of rigs where they are left on, and heard things about the flares being an extra layer of protection against rocks & trees.
Great deal. Cute kids. I hate guys with full heads of hair. :D
:cheers:Ned

What do they say? "Don't hate me 'cause I'm beautiful" At 34, all my hair has done is recede a bit from where it was at 20.

Flare came off on a pine tree while wheeling. decided there to yank the other 3 off instead of putting the front passenger flare back on. Love them off. Can't know until you try it with your own rig!

No pictures yet, but I spent some time today with ratchet straps and a pry bar pulling my radiator support closer to its correct location. By my measurements, it's within 0.5" so I'm calling it good. I also moved some of the other sheet metal in that area, now it just needs a little welding in one spot to hold things together.

I also played around with fitting the Scion radio in the dash. Since the radio was free, I chose to do some trimming on the faceplate itself, and only relieved the backside of the dash bezel slightly to match the curve of the faceplate. The brackets and mounting are the next step, I'll try to get some pictures of this whole process.

On another note, bonus checks came early, so the Cruiser fund got a little boost. :D

I only kept part of the bonus, the rest went in the bank.:princess:

First mod.

And it was free! Woody gave me that sticker at SNT 08, I just carefully peeled the backing and stuck it on there, only a few bubbles in the finished product. :hillbilly:

Got my TLCA sticker on too.

Part of the damage to the RH front included a couple spot welds that pulled apart. Today at lunchtime, I ran it over to my coworker Kyle's house, we pulled out his welder and tacked it back together.

Then he stuck the mask on and got some good booger welds on there.

A little grinding and sanding...

...then some flat black, which I forgot to get pics of. Reassembled with the broken headlight for now, I had to use a longer bolt on the lower mount with a nut for a spacer. Probably will have to do that again with the new light to get everything to line up.
The finished product. Before:

The bumper does have a little bit of clearance, not touching the valance as it appears. I'd like to either find a used ARB-type bumper, cut this one shorter:eek:, or have one fabbed up.

Nice rig. And one heck of a price. I'm not much of a mechanic so I tend to shy away from things that need work like this but I'm trying to learn the ropes and get a little better at it. I think a rig like this would be pretty nice to learn on. Especially with all of the help available here on MUD. Good luck.

I see you even put it in its correct location. :D

I was trying to remember where yours was. Not to copy, but it just seemed like the right location.
I thought it would be cool to have the MUD sticker centered, but that doesn't work with the wiper. :frown:

Got a package in the mail today. :) Thanks, Georg, for having this in stock.

With the Marlin Heavy Duty seals.

And Koyo trunion bearings.

The bummer thing is we're leaving Wednseday for a 2-week vacation to Virginia. I guess there won't be any updates, unless you guys want pics of Washington, D.C. Actually, we'll be in Fredericksburg for a few days, the home of Iron Pig Off Road. :hmm: I wonder if I could carry-on an ARB bumper??

Picked up 2 nicer turn signal assemblies from D'Animal on Sunday.

These came off a '91, so the connectors were different.

Not too big a problem, just switched the harnesses from the old lights to the new ones.
Installed!
IMG_2136.JPG

As I walked down the RH side to put the old lights in the back, I noticed someone customized my antenna.:mad:
IMG_2137.JPG

Yep, it's ruined.:bang: I used to have an antenna that went up and down manually...guess I'll have to come up with a solution for that.

Drove it home for the first time today (had been leaving it at work) and gave it a trial run of sorts. I haven't done any of the coolant hoses yet, been waiting for the PHH kit, so I know it's losing coolant. After driving about 20 miles at highway speeds, I got into town and saw the temp gauge start to climb a little. I had been noticing the A/C temp was not staying real cold, but thought maybe it was just a bit low on refrigerant. Anyways, I rolled the windows down, and turned the heat on just to make sure the engine didn't get any hotter. When I got home, I grabbed hold of the fan, and sure enough, the clutch is just spinning freely. Adding that to the list of things to do.:bounce:

The dealership should have insurance against vandlism to your vehicle.

Thanks, I'll check into that.

I forgot to mention the Check Engine light also came on not long after I got on the freeway. My guess is the EGR, but I didn't check the codes yet.

Now we're on vacation, so instead of mucking up this thread with a trip report, I started one over here. There's already been a couple Cruiser sightings, so post up if it was you.

dustin may have that SST for your axle. Let me know when you get back.
