Got this alternator on eBay. Looks like an exact Denso/Toyota cross reference to our nla unit. Brand new, just needs the VR. Good deal. Works perfect in the 60.

Just passing info along. Cheers.

I paid about $50 for a Delco-Remy from Rockauto. Denso would have been nicer, but I think it will work just fine.

That is a great deal for correct alternator and its good to know there is a cross reference.

Just found out the Denso listing is NLA.

You can get this alt from toyota for $65. ..and it will be a OEM reman....with -84 at end (that means reman)

So @cosmicdynamo - how has this held up?

I have one, but on the shelf.

Asking because it's still available as a reman from Toyota, and since the OE unit is NLA, it'd be nice to know there's a substitute with minor mods available from Mr. T.

Part # 27020-45140-84

Applications: Toyota Celica 1979-1981, GT, LT, Supra 4 Cyl 2.2L, 2.4L, 2.7L

Thanks again!

Be sure to check the clocking of this alternator. Some of these alternators will bolt to a 2F but the regulator is pointed at the block instead of toward the fender. I bought one and was able to get the belt to fit barely. I then swapped the internals to my old case to get a better fit.

I'm confused.......
The original FJ60 alternator was NLA from Toyota as of a few years ago. Is the above part number the same alternator in our trucks simply with a different part number?

IDK if it's the same alternator internally, but the externals are identical, save for the pulley. The OE FJ60 pulley swaps right over, though. Also it's 60 vs the 55 amp stock FJ60 alternator.

There may be some unseen internal differences, and unless someone wants to disassemble both. But the question to the OP was just to see how it's working out. Anyway, it's a cheap backup and about $55 from Toyota as a Denso reman.

Outta curiosity, (since this reman alt is a good find!) I rummaged up the drawings for the 55 amp 79-81 Celica alternator and the 55 amp FJ60 alternator to compare. I couldn't find part numbers for the rotor or stator on the Celica alt, so it's hard to say they are the same... But besides the pulley and rear cover, dang! It's a pretty close match. Same drawing with minor changes.

No, they are different. The celica mounting ear is clocked wrong, limiting adjuster travel, and the regulator is clocked to the engine, so it will lay against the hot water hose.

Could you swap the front plates (frames) so the celica body has the correct 60 ears?
