Oh yeah I wasn't thinking of going super high or anything like that... just a little more than the 55amps that the stock unit puts out.

agree'd

my 60 with MG is set up like that. my 40 is not(I don;t even run the dual bats anymore) and I don't plan to run a MG(even though I have a spare to rebuild) but a nice bolt on option for my 82 fj40 what I am looking for, and the closer to stock the better, I ended up with one of the last OEM alts 2 years ago so it has lots of life(but damn it, I like spares) I may worry the extra 5 amps may take out my 50 amp amp meter......(thats a joke, because they never work)

Just order an early 80 alt... JimC has the conversion thread somewhere on this. Just remember our systems weren't designed for high output and a few Mudders have burnt their rigs to the ground trying to up their systems... Make sure your electric is top notch or figure a stand alone secondary input solution. Dual batteries with aux fuse panel, relays and breakers.

At Barnwell a few years back a guy in a 40 with a Mean Green high output burned to the ground using the old 40 harness.

Just my .02

Well that was a short lived high! Hopefully the alternator does come back in stock.

from my parts guy late Friday.....:grinpimp:

"ALTERNATORS MADE IT IN.
I WILL SEND ON MONDAY.
STEVE"

I only ordered 2, so hopefully that won't shock the Toyota system......now if I ordered a dozen or more....It might be a different story......LOL :slap:

think my cost was less than $50 each....

Which one did you order?

the correct one 27020 45140-84 which had the Stop Sale on it from Toyota.....the one Jason shows. I dunno maybe one of Mr Toyoda's elves made them by hand for me ;)

not sure what the real story is, Toyota USA was not out(seeing how I ordered monday, told tuesday they would not sell anymore or were out and they then showed friday). My understanding was they just decided not to sell anymore for whatever reason. I was told if they were truly out(they were killing the part), there would be a 2 month wait "if" Toyota decide to make more. I don;t claim to understand Toyota's methods or parts system. Heck maybe they hoard the last few of each part themselves? Then see a demand.......then ask for more to be made and release their stash......

I am sure Beno know how this works......

My understanding (experience) is that many Toyota parts dealers make up bs stories for the customer all the time.

That's why I like my buddy at the local dealership here. I call and ask... his response... "You are F'ing kidding me right..."

I dunno, never been BS's before...unless for fun....but regardless

So....why the stop order? same thing Jason said happened? so that's BS as well?

If any BS....it came from Toyota USA...to my guy .

Is the wiring a direct fit as well? So it seems that all one needs is a new VR and a pulley swap and you are ready.

OK, so last week I got 2 of the celica alts

plug, wiring, ears, mount ect are all the same as a stock 8/80+(maybe 79+) 40/60 alt. It will be a direct fit for a 60. fj60 voltage reg swaps over exactly. I did not test fit the alt because the 60 has a Mean Green and the 40 has an almost new OEM alt.......didn't have a need or real desire

however on a 40, because of the double pulley it won't fit(well it might but it would be real tight0 without hitting the radiator shroud, so in that case, you just need to swap the pulley from the old alt. the pulley on the replacement alt is also a bit smaller so you may want to swap the pulley anyway, but not sure if it really will make much difference in the belt.

few pics(old alt is original to the 82 fj40, not a reman, has te sexy old ND decal)

there is a little nub on the back of the mount that is not on the original, I don't think it makes any difference, distance between mount is the same.

I do wonder where the extra 5 amps comes from, it it the smaller pulley? or maybe in the voltage reg? (celica vrs cruiser) I am not smart enough to know......;)

Would you like to sell one?

i have an old and a new on the workbench and want to switch pulleys.......is the pulley nut "normal" right-hand thread?? with the pulley rotating clockwise i could see how this one might be left-hand thread. either way -- any tips for getting the nut loosened?? mine won't budge after quick taste of pb blaster.
thanks.

I don't remember or know for sure....did it once or twice along time ago and used an air impact. I wanna say left is loose........

In all business places, stories are made up bull**** for the buyer. Fake it, till you make it.

This thread came along at just the right time. I have been desmoging and switching the stock PS pump to a Saginaw on my new-to-me 87 fj60 when I noticed I barely had any give to the the belt for removing anything with the alternator tension bolt all the way inward. It was because it had the wrong one, with the the regulator clocked toward the engine. It worked, but was a pain to remove because there was less room for adjustment. After reading this thread I ordered an alt on 1/11/17 and picked it up on 2/15/17.
