Hey Yall, I have a 2007 Lexus Gx470 in artic pearl and I really want to change to a lc 100 2006 Sorona Gold (already eyeing one up). I would be selling this one in order to buy the lc100 and I want yalls opinion on the matter. I really love the overall look of the lc100 and the wider car but for the people that already own the lc100 is it worth making the switch on the driving quality? I have Total Chaos UCA and LCA and 2.5 inch king reseviors. I have attached some photos and would love anyones insight. By the way I live in Texas (Houston) and I am struggling to put the rig to use.

I'd switch solely on having the split rear hatch / folddown tailgate vs the giant swinging rear door !!!

Ride quality, stcokwise, it would be comparable but I think the LC might have a little "nicer" ride just cause it's a tad bigger / heavier. Once modded that all would be different though based on what you change.

The GX wants to be a LC when it grows up.

I debated gx vs lx/lc for a long time before pulling the trigger. Almost everything I read on the lx AND the gx pages said the lx/lc was superior and that's what I went with. Never owned a gx but couldn't be happier with my lx.

I have both. Wife drives the gx.

A stock gx is much rougher on the road than my 100 with ahc.

The GX is substantially faster than my 100.

The tailgate in the 100 is preferable much of the time, but can make getting things out harder with the addition need to reach.

100 has bigger more comfortable seats.

Both are very solid, reliable trucks.

My opinion is there is no "reason" to get a 100 if you have a 120. If you just want one, then go for it.

Land Cruiser is the king. And the 100 series is the king of the Land Cruisers.

That said I've heard the GX470 drives nice and is a lot more nimble.

My guess is that the very specific design and the assembly line the LC is on versus the GX assembly line is rather key.

Gx is NOT a 4Runner. It's a Land cruiser Prado. The Prado is vastly superior in build quality, just like a 100. Anyone who says a GX is a 4Runner hasn't really driven both.

I would even argue a GX has superior build quality to a 100.

Say huh?? I would be very interestd to see information that suggests the GX470 has a superior build quality compared to a 100 series LX or LC. Everything I have ever seen to the contrary is that they are considered "light duty" version of the Land Cruiser models and of course they are/were half the price. I would like to learn more if you have anything.

I struggle to think of a vehicle that I have owned that has been a bigger disappointment than my GX460 was. I ended up selling to carmax just to no longer deal with it.

GXs are nice, yours looks well set up. The 100 will be slower and use more gas but otherwise they are quieter and much larger inside so you can actually sleep in it and keep your gear too. Everything to do with the suspension, brakes, transfer case, axles etc on the 100 is beefier and tougher. The front lower control arms are about twice as thick on a 100 as a GX. I've seen a lot of GXs break on the trail but not 100s (knocks on head).

When I drove a GX, I noticed a few things compared to my 100.

1. The GX felt more top heavy on the freeway.
2. The front seat cushions were shorter under my thighs making the cruiser seats much more comfy.
3. The rear seats were considerably narrower and less legroom.

I like the looks of yours but other than yours being lighter and maybe more low speed nimble, I think the 100 wins in most every metric.

If you measure the interior space from the center console to the rear door, the GX is insignificantly smaller. I mean 1". I was shocked.

I'm defending the GX470, but I would take my LX everyday of the week.

I own both, and it really depends on what type of driving you do / overall goals with the vehicle .. My 100 series is built a bit heavy and meant for long distance traveling and sleeping in... My GX is bone stock and has barely ever seen the dirt but is still extremely capable off road while also being able to buzz around at 80 mph highway speeds

>> You want to switch to a 100 series to get better ride quality? The GX rides like a cloud , the 100 series drives like a dump truck... If your GX is riding s***ty is because its lifted , the higher and heavier we build these vehicles the worse they drive ... Some people may argue that but its definetly tru. These rigs don't benefit from a lift unless you just want to stuff huge tires in there and pretend to be a real off roader

Again it will really come down to what you want to do with the vehicle in the end.... 4 speed VS 5 speed will make a difference too of course . A 4 speed 100 will feel like a slug compared to your GX.

Everyone will have a different opinion on this type of stuff, its all based on what they are used to driving and personal preferences. You cant go wrong either way, less rust + most maintenance = winner
the GX is not even in the same league as the 100. Its a 4Runner with fancy clothes on
The Landcruiser is in a class by itself
This is not true, its very on par to the 100 series in terms of build quality and off road capability but I will agree the 100 is built just a bit tougher all around

Hello lgs924,
I know I've responded to a similar thread before :-)

My daily driver is an 07 GX (VVT-i) and I also own / drive a 03 LX (Not VVT-i).
The decision is completely yours (obviously) and should depend on what you want to use it for.

My GX is considerably more nimble / faster than the LX.
But, if you are looking at a 06 or 07 LX / LC with more power than my 03 LX, the power factor won't be as extreme.
But still, your GX will be faster / more nimble than any LC / LX you buy.
I'd highly recommend test driving several LC / LXs before making a decision.

100 Series with AHC has a nicer ride than non-AHC (all AHC haters please chime in...).
AHC (Hydraulic Suspension) adds some complexity, but many of us think the smooth ride outweighs the complexity.

Both have great build quality.
In my experience, there's more LC / LX expertise and involvement on the forums (especially this one...) than GX / 4R expertise / involvement.

Good luck with your decision.
If you have the room, you could just add to your stable and buy an older (less expensive...) 100 Series!

Enjoy.
Tom

Does ride too bad, the suspension is built very well and installed the correct way. I was debating on going back to factory rims, bumper and fenders instead of swapping to a lc100. Lc100 I have in mind has a lift (OME?) and has dobinsons as well. It has more road focused tires however. I do think the gx could drive quite well if I change the fenders and bumper. But I really like the overall look of the lc100 and the tailgate as well.
