nice job!

John, Hope my 79 2004 79 will turn as good as this one ! i wasn't in a rush to have the truck restored but you are making me feel anxious :)

great job

This truck will never look the same again. Have a super adventure!!
Thanks Bob!

I am in Dawson City at the moment. Only 1300+ miles to go.

To those people, PM'ing me: Sorry I have not responded sooner. I am on the road in the middle of British Columbia; Dawson City to be exact. I am beginning the AlCan highway shortly. I will be in and out of internet service for the next few weeks. Bare with me.

The truck is doing great. I am getting lots of thumbs up and a few people tend to gather when I stop. I will post some pictures soon.

Later.

Actually, you're in the Yukon. Planning a stay in Whitehorse?

Have fun

Have fun, and swing by if you come through wa state, we're right in the center. BTW the truck looks awesome. Needs at least another decal or 2 though:)

Thanks Bob!

We have been working on this project for the past few weekends and quite a few late nights. It has all come together nicely and actually rather quickly. It's nice working with new sheet metal.

Here are some poser shots taken outside the shop. I think it came out pretty sweet. I have a few more accessories to add and it will be completely done.

Let me know what you all think.

Where did you get the toyota snorkel from ??

Thanks,

Michael

These are in fact, 79 series springs. 75 springs are a little shorter than a 79 spring and a bit different than a 60 spring. The 79 springs and 75 springs share the same bushings but are not the same.

MSGGrunt: Sorry, we don't have any extra dashes at the moment. I may have a lead on some so keep in touch. You might also be able to track one down. They are out there, they just take a little digging to find.

79 springs are the longest ones Toyota has may yet for a Land Cruiser.

Cheers,

Michael

The bodies come with the OEM snorkels when imported by Profitt's.

Very cool John! Enjoy the Alcan. It was the single best road trip I have ever done (even if it was because I was laid off in Anchorage and the next job was down south).

I'm going to have to make some time to get over your way when you get back to CO to check it out in person, and talk 1HZ stuff...

Dan

Extremely cool build there. Gotta ask though, how do new 79 series bodies end up separated from the rest of the vehicles like that?

A company in Jordan (Middle East) bought the Landcruisers for their stout frames, axles, and motors. They then stripped the bodies to convert them into armored/military vehicles. How Proffitt's came about them you would have to ask them.

Ok, it makes sense now.:) Though it really sucks for you guys that these vehicles aren't available at your local Toyota dealer. I'd sooner a 'Cruiser anyday over a big F truck/Dodge Ram/Silverado.

Sorry for the lack of updates but I have been traveling. I was on the road for 42 days up in Alaska participating in ACT2010 and exploring. I covered 11,850 miles and the truck did really well, especially considering what I put it through. I had some damage during the Trek from a broken tow strap. It took out my DS headlight, front grill, radiator, and winch controller. Other than that, I exploded a rear U-joint and that was about it. Not too bad.

You can see some pictures on the ACT2010 thread starting on page 31:

great build everything has come together nicely in the end. I love the look of the wellbody

I have not checked this thread in awhile. Sorry about that.

Esh: My 1HZ did just fine. I weighed about 7500 lbs the entire trip and the 1HZ did really well. Sure, there were times I wish I had a turbo but not really that much. I live at altitude (6500ft) and I daily drive the truck. Up here, I find my 1HZ to be quite peppy, especially unloaded. However, I could really tell a difference down at sea level. It made a big difference being down there.

Mike: How's Buena Vista? Swing by the next time you are in the area.

A little update. Since coming back from Alaska, it has been work, work, work. I was fortunate enough to get out and enjoy a nice trail ride with some Cruiser friends in the Glenwood Springs area. I attended the 1st annual Cruiser Q and it was a real blast. it was a fun day of wheeling and a Bar-B-Q afterward. Fun times and good people. We had a total of 13 Toyotas. I will definitely have to make it next year too. There is talk of making it an overnighter.

A few pics of the 79 on the trip:

Really nice build. Interesting how you guys build them on 60 series platforms. Here in SA we also have the 79's, and they are real nice trucks to have.
