Nice mate are you going to run a 75 series dash cluster or a elec powered 79 series cluster
This makes me alland
and
and
no turbo?
John,
Are those 35's... Correct me if I am wrong, but are you able to fit 35's without going SPOA? I know the rear springs are from the 75 correct? They look like they hang down really low.
I was thinking about going the SPOA route on my 79 build (62 series frame and running gear) to clear
35's using 63" Chevy 2500 HD springs in the rear, but maybe SPOA would put it too high?
Wish I could afford a diesel for my build... I guess the old 3FE will have to suffice. Great build...
Very nice! You should run HZJ79 rear springs and front coils - update that s***ty 6X series ride to a smooth ridin 79![]()
I am running 35's. I think going SOA will be too high but it is up to you. I am running 60 series 2" lift front springs with a shackle reversal. The rear is factory rear 79 springs with 2" extended shackles. We do not have anything dialed in as of yet and are just playing with things.
79 rear springs are in. I thought about the front coils but decided to go with simplicity for this build. As usual, I am the guinea pig when it comes to builds like this. We will probably do a custom 3 link on another build but we just wanted to try one out with leaf springs.
I don't know what you are talking about a smooth riding 79. The front is nice but that 11 leaf rear pack is bone jarring with no weight in the bed. I ended up pulling 3 overload leafs out (left one overload per pack) and it is now....nice and smooth.
Sounds great, spring under is less work than spring over, and cheaper. Did you do the rear to front spring swap? Or just used OME 2" lift front springs?
I know you used the 79 series rear springs because they are longer (8.5" I believe) to help with the extra length of the 79 series body on the 60/62 series frame and that is why I was thinking about the 63" Chevy springs. They get great reviews here for ride quality and still should be heavy duty as they are sourced off a 2500HD truck. Not sure if they would work spring under as they have very little arch as they came SPOA on the Chevy. The guys with 60/62 series I have seen use the Chevy springs SPOA in the rear and keep it spring under in the front and the truck sits level.
I am looking for a report on how the 79 series rear springs ride. Spring under would be easier, but SPOA would get things up and out of the way, even if just on the rear. No caster issues, no high steer conversion, etc...
Just to Compare:
FJ62:
Overall Length 4750 mm = 187.0079"
Wheelbase 2730 mm = 107.4803"
FZJ79
Overall Length 5095 mm = 200.5906"
Wheelbase 3180 mm = 125.1969"
The overall length of the FZJ79 at approx 17' is a bit impressive.[/QUOTE
Not sure why you'd want to spring over, I run 36 inch tires, extended shackles on the rear, OME 2.5 lift front coils (with 2 inch poly spacers because the OME's sagged). I have tons of clearance and rarely get hung up, oh - and everything under my truck is armor plated so if I do hit something it just makes a nasty noise with no harm done. Spring overs are old school![]()
