If things pan out like I want them to, I'll be in for this one. Gotta save up some dough for gas though 1.5 tanks there, .5+ wheeling, and 1.5 back...thats 60X2.5=too damn much.

It won't be that bad. Gas will be around $2.1/2ish (NC sucks big time in that way) for the trip and it's an easy drive for you. You're about 40 miles further than me.

Very different from Uwharrie, you should try and make it.

Hope you can make it man, you won't regret :D.............. just make sure you can get there in time to meet up with one of the groups, Like Andy said it isn't like URE and if you don't follow some one that knows the way you won't be finding us.........

Just ask John and Gehn :flipoff2:

I like it........ it has been a while since the old girl has seen the trails  just make sure you bring you loppers so you can trim all the little branches :princess: don't won't any pin striping on that new paint :D

Rocinante is masculine, sir. You can tell by looking under the rear and seeing those huge, locked 411's dangling ;)

JP - Do we know the bypass route for the ascent on the right immediately after the creek crossing leaving the first night's camp?

I know it is generally go left instead of up the ascent but do we know the length of that route?

andy-- IIRC its like a 45min to an hour trip and there is one possible turn you would not want to take.
(it would be to the left if going up this trail)

<just make sure you bring you loppers so you can trim all the little branches don't won't any pin striping on that new paint >

......i was wondering who was in charge of that

Thanks Jason. I am not worried about the pin striping. It's only adding to the "character" at this point.

I think trying the steep ascent would be fun. Just wondering what the bypass is because I can't imagine everyone will be up for it / capable of pulling it off with stock rigs.

JP seems to have a pretty good handle on the trail network as he has explored more than me. So between him, you and Alex, there will be plenty of "guide" knowledge.

I think marshall is going to be leading the late group he has the GPS unit..... and this weekend I am going to help him plot a course so you guys should be set, plus you know the area well to Andy....... but I plan on sending you guys in a little different route, should be short and more "exciting " than the sugar creek gap....

we got a good group going its going to be a great trip

anyone found/made a good map of the trails in this area. it would be great to be able to talk about these routes and know we are talking bout the same things. alex and i drew one up last night to discuss all the areas we had been, trails we've ridden, and those we knew of but hadnt explored and such. as for the late group, More "exciting" sounds good cause its not much wheelin to get to the campround by way of UCPRIVATE and i'm always game for learning a new trail.

...i can't wait:bounce:

I'll go anywhere... :)

Pinstriping? What is that?

That's scary... :grinpimp:

There is a good map the rover club has created that JP refers to. Let me see if I can find it and link it here.

I agree with this Jason.

Here's the map that we use. JP has done the most exploring and we've found it is pretty accurate.

Even with gas prices being lower, my cruiser still eats all of 60 bucks, and my mileage hasn't gotten any better. I'm workin real hard on goin, and if I can find someone to take the trek with me all would be even better.

Got a few more things needing to be done to the cruiser before I head too far out of town, got some valve ticking and it seems as if my alternator fan is making some noise that doesn't sound good.

yeah their stuff is spot on........ got to love those rover guys and their fancy smancy tracking devices :D

I also have a 4'x4' collage of USGS maps of the whole area....... it shows stuff that the rovers don't and the rovers show stuff the USGS don't

if you look at the rovers map and look for the trail label "shock snapper" :D that is the trail I am going to be sending you guys up on...... it connects into the Sugar creek gap trail not far from camp

The PM group is going that way? :)

If so....GOOD!

hehe yeah it is the quickest route to the camp that night........ from readin over on the rovers guys site they think it is a tuff section of trail, but they are :princess: I haven't personally run it yet....... but will find out, from what I under stand it is very rutted out :D can't wait

Guess I won't bring the Camry:eek:

Gonna be fun!

Steen, just be behind me, I will strap you up :)

You guys can't be scared of a little pin stripping or some valve ticking!! come one, these are cruisers. They beg for this type of trip.

JP, i think i know exactly where you are talking about going. I'm pumped!!!!!

UCPRIVATE

They had a huge erosion problem which allowed tons and tons of soil to be eroded down into streams. Since then, it was turned into game lands and national forest. There is great Bear hunting, grouse hunting and turkey hunting in these areas. That is the purpose of the balds, wildlife habitat. When i was at school up there we did some experiments with black cherry seedlings and grouse habitat. Really cool stuff up there.

Also, when you think of the movie deliverance, this place fits the description to a tee (actually, in the movie when they go back into town after escaping, that is sylva). I spoke with one of the sheriffs up there a few years ago. He told me there are still children born in houses with dirt floors and no power up there. Kids that are never registered and have no social security numbers. There have also been a few sheriffs to disappear up there. So don't stop and talk much to the locals, they don't like new people up there. Not trying to scare anyone, just letting you know this is the real deal. :)

Man I’m excited!!!

Believe me, it's not fear of the trail... it's my lack of fear that scares me!!

And maybe lack of skills too? "more gas oughta do it! "

Gonna be a blast... just joshin ya Ahab.

Dan, I like to be tied up... but that's not what I had in mind :o
