No one else wants to say it so I will.

Copper State Cruisers Monthly Phoenix Meeting notes
June 19, 2019 @ 6:30 PM

Phoenix, AZ

This month we decided to try to escape the heat and head indoors. @LandCruiserPhil worked out a private space for us to meet at the Knock Kneed Lobster in Phoenix-- the room was just the right size and the food was pretty good, too! Hopefully we'll be able to use that space again in the future during summer meetings. Apparently this has been used as an offroading club meetup spot for over 30 years!

First Time Guests

We had a lot of first time guests this time! Thank you all for coming!

- @AZCatCruiser John born and raised here in Phoenix. He has a gold 2000 LX470 and he's the 2nd owner. He spent a long time looking for it, and finally found the perfect vehicle (originally a snowbird car.) Low miles with only 115k miles on it and it's been garaged its entire life. Mods so far have been running board and mud flap deletes, with some KO2s as well.

- Jason (mud name?) was born and raised here, went to high school in Mesa. In college he bought an '87 FJ60 and did a V8 conversion on it-- when he graduated from college he sold it in Las Cruces. Fast-forward to more recently he found a white '97 Limited 4Runner in excellent shape that he still owns. He has wanted to get another Land Cruiser and finally found a white '84 FJ60 that also has a V8 conversion, which he purchased. He wants to take some of the mods off it (oversized tires, etc.) and is interested in getting advice and ideas from members of the club in order to make it more of a practical daily driver.

New Members

- @electricbaez New CSC member Ivan (Electricbaez) Ivan is originally from FL moved here about 2 years ago. He joined the club back in 2017 but this is his first official meeting! He's got an '05 UZJ100 (tan) that he bought recently. So far no major mods just '33 KO2s, but he has plans to make a drawer system that will allow for sleeping in the truck, as well as other plans. He has a wife and an 18-month old baby that even goes camping!

- @Honger New CSC member #519 Joel Ericson Joel Erichson has a dune beige '77 FJ40 and a white '91 FJ75 Troopy. The FJ40 is his restored toy but he does take it out (used to live in Abu Dhabi). The Troopy is going to be turned into the family exploring wagon for NM and Arizona (gas engine, two tanks, two air conditioners). The second AC is an auxiliary insert unit that was installed in Oman, and is apparently pretty common for use in the middle east. Eventually he'll bring both trucks to a meeting for us to ogle.

DOTM

None this month --- anyone have ideas of other items that would be good for the raffle? PM @LandCruiserPhil and/or @medtro!

Other Business

@Saddletramp spent about 45 minutes giving us a detailed trip report on his 11,000 mile 7-week trip to Alaska and beyond. It sounded like an amazing adventure and included at least 2000 miles on dirt. Events/Trails - Saddletramp's 2019 Summer Adventure <--- For more details see the thread! There was some interesting discussion on different satellite communication devices/beacons that are extremely useful for traveling in very remote areas without cell service. Some of the different products the CSC members use and discussed were InReach Satellite Communication Devices | inReach® by GARMIN , Spot SPOT SATELLITE MESSENGER :: HOME PAGE , and Somewear https://www.somewearlabs.com/adventure

- Thanks to @murf for providing a spur-of-the-moment free raffle item (a small solar-powered light?). @Fishbone60 was the lucky winner!
