Also if you get very motivated and reproduce the insulator that would be a hit !
We are cooking inside without the insulator!!

I made one from Flowmaster's biggest muffler heat shield #51022. It was cheaper than dedicated muffler wraps/heat shields. It just required a little nip & tuck.

Ooh good tip! :)

Yeah, I think an insulator is a great idea. @firemanj92 's suggestion seems like a good path to try. I like the idea of the insulator vs adding something to the pan under the truck. Dont want to trap any moisture on the body.
Definitely going to look into that area.

Getting this firewall grommet closer to the finish line. The grommet for the transfer case selector rod has long been destroyed in my truck. I haven't really seen one present or in good shape on other trucks so I designed a new version based on remnants that were left on my truck. The first prototype didn't have the correct geometry and thickness I wanted. Should have a prototype 2.0 to test shortly. Fingers crossed and I'll update soon. :) *Yes I need to replace the grommet next to it. :hillbilly: Based on the 1965 parts book, it looks to be 90480-26043 and still available from Toyota! Is that true @OGBeno?

Chase, this was the original grommet #90480-19048 that was used on my firewall/transfer case rod I believe it's the same as the choke, then the 4wd actuator grommet is the same as the parking brake grommet in firewall (Sor 076-40A-A). I don't have an OEM # because they over lay their sticker on the OEM.

Thanks. Intersting yours had 19048 as the grommet for the transfer case rod. Looking in the 65 parts book it looks like the number was 36371-60010 but maybe that changed later on? Time to dig! The chunk that was still hanging on in my truck looked more like 60010 (N in the photo):

"N" looks like the throttle rod boot on the firewall, without the bend.

It does have that same look! :)
Here is what was left of the boot on my truck. Took some measurements off of it and looked at other boots on the truck to get an idea of what it could have looked like new. I think I got close! Hopefully the next iteration fits well.

Thank you! That picture is super helpful. The base is a different than I assumed.... I will tweak my model now.
Geez these grommets sure lived a tough life! Those are the most complete I have ever seen and still they are barely hanging on for dear life.

Fresh purchase and scan to share with you all! Up on the site now for viewing in all its 1980s sexiness.
Definitely the hardest brochure to scan to date. Very large, square shape, glossy and had imperfections from its long life. But I got there after a lot of stitching and blending in photoshop. Don't look too hard for imperfections. hahaha
