It's ~150 pages ~11" x 17", sheet feed scanner?

That is starting to sound like work.

We can find a way. We could start with the must haves and move our way down the list. It is unfortunately not a batch scanner so each would need to be hand fed. I'll be around in July.

They are all "must haves"!:hillbilly: There are still a few options, first there must be an electronic/digital copy, so need to beat the county for one? If that fails, then will start looking at scanning options. I have heard rumors of sheet feed scanner accessibility, at this point unconfirmed. It would be great to have them as one file, so nav would be possible using Ozi Explorer or whatever.

I was planning on calling them again to ask for a digital version - haven't gotten around to it yet - maybe later this week when I am getting lonely in Omaha

on the other hand, if Michael is bored while I am away, he could start scanning

in the interest of manageability, I would leave the individual maps separate - and make a less detailed one for overview

Yep.

All of this is doable, just a bunch of time. Sounds like you want them decollared as well to assemble one largish map. Doable as well. I am not well acquainted with OziExplorer, so I don't know of any trick. MacGPS Pro is able to open map files as you enter the area. This makes memory management much easier. I'll get back in touch in July and see where you are at.

Importing into Ozi Explorer is EZ. I say that because I can do it :hillbilly: If the map has GPS cord. just put in the x and y and Ozi sets the scale

Awesome pics. You guys managed to fit a lot more of it in your cameras than I did!
I'm about ready to go back tomorrow...

Some of our cameras are... well,... bigger :grinpimp:

So. First crude attempt to read one of the San Juan County road maps into my GPS software. Took two runs on the scanner (to cover the 11x17") and some rotating/stitching in Photoshop to make a jpeg file for import. Quality needs improvement, first try at 600dpi/24bit (color overkill, I know, but wanted to see if it works at all). I calibrated the map manually, using the 7.5 minute coordinates at each corner. Import into Mac GPS Pro worked, I then opened the tracklog I had acquired on our Lavender Canyon trip. On the image, that's the purple(lavender??) line with the little black crosses that represent the track points. the red line is the roade as it appears on the map. Appears fairly close. :) you can see where we tried the 'low' road first, and then backtracked to take the 'high' road. Second pic is the overlay of the track log onto my USGS maps - which show only the 'low' road. Third pic is from the area where we turned around that afternoon. Overall judgment: goal achieved, but process work intensive/highly inefficient.

P.S. My handheld Garmin GPS seems to miss a few track points every now and then. I guess I should find a mount at the windshield rather than having it just sit in the console in the truck.

On second thought, can't let you do that. The White Rim formation is falling apart as is anyways, and you broke the road...:D

Paging Drew, what happened with that noise in the rear of your rig?

Looks like my rear diff was spitting out oil... after parking on asphalt I was able to see a little puddle under the truck, it was down a quart. My next 2 fillups I needed to add a quart and then it stopped leaking... I will be taking it in to have it checked out next week.

Leak + noise, maybe a pinion bearing going?:frown:

 chilled balls of a leading industrial solvent on Launch Pad and great Crack footage. Next time at the Crack, try moving the cam up a bit, the close rock blocked how deep it is where you cross?

good point Kevin, the crack was a hard one to video, any closer and you dont see the whole rig. I tried it. Next year i'll try from the other side, or maybe just put the video camera on top of the ledge instead of in it.
