Saturday was White Rim, my favorite drive of the trip.

Shaffer Switchbacks, what were the thinking when they decided to put a road here?

It was sagging a bit, so Drew straightened it up, made more difficult someone walking on it.

When no one was on it, Don could easily hold it up with one finger.

Glops of mud with rock caps.

Needles in the distance, Monument Basin closer.

In a lot of places the road is way undercut, most times you don't know until later.

JDM Norm had a bit of an :whoops: when the road let him down climbing Hardscrabble. A quick strap and was back underway, don't believe any Depends were soiled.:hillbilly:

Map fun:

I really like the National Geographic "Trails Illustrated" series, but they have some glaring omissions and often inaccurate. One case in point is Lavender Canyon, here is a comparison of National Geographic Topo! with the track we ran, National Geographic "Trails Illustrated" and the San Juan county inventory map.

Nat Geo Topo! has it close, so they have to have the info, why is the paper version so lacking? The San Juan county inventory maps rock, need to find someone to scan them, so they are easier to use on the trail.

I can scan stuff up to 42" wide on a rolling scanner. I'll be leaving for CA in little over a week and will be back in late June. If we can arrange a way to get the maps down here I can scan them sometime this summer.

I can geo-rectify maps, but I'm not sure your software will be able to read them. There is also the option of "decollaring" the maps to stitch them together. At that point you are starting to talk about actual work.

:D
