No, That's pretty good, I payed a little over $200.00 for mine. I put a turbo II muffler under mine and it has a pretty good sound.
I think I'm going to fit a 3rd row minivan seat in the back, that has 3 seat belts. Thanks for the info.

Haven't updated in a while. Just been living life. Haven't really done a bunch of updates. I drive it regularly around town and 4 wheel some trails around here occasionally. Not very tough stuff, mostly just dirt roads.

It snowed here in East Texas and stuck about 8" worth. That is very rare for this part of the country so I had to get the 40 out and play a little. Here is a poser pic.

snow in Texas? you have more snow on the ground there then i have seen all year here in Canada.

Thumbs up!

Man, your rig is looking good! A lot better than when I first saw your thread a few months back! You've done it on a tight budget too, something that I understand all to well. :bang::bang:

My rig is a terrible brown color that I hate, but was going to leave till I could pull the body off and do it right- but as good as your rig looks (even if it is a 20' paint job) I think that I will do something similar... Cuz right now it is gosh aweful and till I have time and resources to do it right, I'd like it to look a little better!!

If you don't mind me asking, how long did it take to paint it? And once again it looks great! good job!

Drivers in East Texas get really crazy when it does snow or ice like this. We only see this every once in a while and people do not know how to drive in it. I drove around and helped a few folks out of ditches. Didn't even unroll the winch. Just used a strap and 4lo.

It might have taken a weekend to paint. Not really even a whole weekend. Just several hours of a weekend. My suggestion is wait till you have 70 degree weather. Wash the truck thoroughly with dish washing liquid ( something like Dawn that is a grease cutter) and use a scotchbrite pad as your sponge. That will degrease and scuff your existing paint all at once.

After it is completely dry, remove or tape off everything that you don't want painted. The key is in the smallest details. Be very careful to remove or mask everything. Overspray looks sloppy and makes your paint job look sloppy.

After it is masked, you could sand again with some 200 to 400 grit and blow the dust off. Then wipe everything down carefully with laquer thinner and it will dry quickly. Start spraying but use the can the same way you would a high dollar paint gun. If you don't know how to paint, get a friend that does.

My paint looks good in the pics and from 15' or 20' because it is a matte finish. The matte paint hides a lot of body blemishes. If you have any questions, send me a pm.

Thanks for the info... I agree with the devil bein in the details-I'm kinda like that with everything though... I think I may have to make myself a temp spray booth because it's going to be a few months before it's in the 70's here... :)

really like the recovering job they did on the seats...they did a great job...what did that run you if you dont mind me asking

very nice work you have been doing to your rig :)

Thank you very much for the compliment.

I don't mind you asking about the seats. My friend did them for free but I had to wait about two months. They did a great job. I had them do the stitching in the seats to match the originals that they took out.

I wanted it to look stock but my friend said that they would last a lot longer if we left the stitching out or very minimal. He said every time you puncture that fabric, it weakens it and especially if it is going to get wet. He had very valid points but I wanted it close to factory.

Sweet rig, but I gotta ask: how about a shot of the engine bay?

Well......:o. I haven't done a lot of restoration there. It probably doesn't look any different than anybody elses out there. I have got it running very nicely now. I try to refinish things as I have them apart. I have gone completely through the cooling system but the first mud puddle trashed my fresh painted radiator.

I did put in a Remflex intake gasket set so I refinished the intake/exhaust manifolds while there. I put on a new Trollhole carb so it has some bling.

Nice!
If anyone is offput by the condition of that engine bay, they are not a true cruiserhead.
I esepcially like how, in the middle of this very well used engine, is a Trollhole carb so clean you could eat off it, shining like a gem!

Great cruiser, sir!

I too am trying to get one looking good and driving well on a budget.

This thread has given me hope that it can actually be done.

Thanks

That Troll Hole carb is NICE!!!! It was fun to read your build.

Haven't posted an update in a while. Just been driving and enjoying my 40.

I ordered all new brake components (front and rear) from Sam Stewart at Lowes Toyota. Thanks Sam.

I also ordered a new knuckle rebuild kit from Cruiser Outfitters. Thanks Kurt. Do you think I was in need of new trunion bearings?

I also have new TRE's to install. Can't wait to finish it all up. This baby ought to be tight when we're done.
