Thank you everyone for posting this. I was feeling guilty, maybe also a bit like an addict for hoarding boxes of parts from 4-5 years ago. But now I see I'm not so unusual and I can continue on buying parts and thinking about installing them...someday. 🙌

What happens is you really enjoy the vehicle and just forget you already had when you bought another because you're obsessed with maintaining it. And then you realize you like this vehicle so much you buy a second one. And then your dad decides he wants a third one in his driveway after 20 years. Then all of a sudden having a scheduled maintenance parts inventory makes perfect sense. And now you feel like buying a fourth one just to "keep something in rotation because one is going through its 30 year overhaul".

Well I added this little NOS part to my collection of uninstalled parts. Call it packrat insurance for my 93. Or maybe just so I could pretend to be half as cool as @cruiserdan

Original box with intact part number label and picktag or it doesn't count.

Yeah, that OEM packaging did not come with mine. Maybe @powderpig was holding it back from me-- he knew where the real money was.
I doubt it. Mechanics generally rip the boxes open and toss them in the dumpster before they even start the job.

I can't begin to remember all the unsaleable parts I scrapped in my career because the mechanics mangled the packaging before they figured out what they actually needed.

Was just looking at this over the weekend. Bought shortly after my rig came home from the dealer. Luckily, have never needed them.

You all are making me feel better! I have some weather stripping I bought from @OGBeno back in 2014/2015 that I am just starting to use and I thought that was crazy. I am among friends it seems. :D

not for my 80 but my old Mazda RX4 i used to have. I purchased a new front grille (pointy nose model) when the dealership was being renovated and they were selling off stock on hand cheap. Paid $190 AUD back in the early 90's for it and still have it unboxed.......

Was in oem bag hanging in the shop when I worked for him in 2014

Mine was shipped in a box, un-bagged but wrapped in bubble wrap (refer to post #28 above). It was shipped to my dealership (by "my dealership" I say this because I was the Parts Manager at that dealership). I ordered it on October 6th 2014. If his harness was older than mine it is possible that it was shipped in a heavy weight clear plastic bag with the part number label on the outside of the bag. Most large harnesses were boxed, but not always.

Mine currently is in a heavyweight bag shipped that way from dealer. Came in box though. Bag has the part number I believe . Box was just Toyota box with that and few other items. Think it was Stevenson Toyota in Denver where I bought from

That would be an "over-pack" box. Usually what was referred to as a "15-15-30". 15 inches wide x 15 inches high x 30inches long.

I cut open 10s of thousands of those boxes in my time.

My wife would tell you that I have issues. Several of them in fact. One of the biggest is that I plan to do something but don't actually get around to do it. I usually get started--- but then don't finish.

Some evidence--I was recently cleaning up my garage and found several parts that I have purchased for my 80 but never got around to installing on said 80.

Example 1: New cigarette lighter I purchased from @cruiserdan in 2010.
Example 2: LED lights I purchased from @george_tlc in 2010
Example 3: Resistors for the temp sensor mod I purchased from @medtro in 2007

I am sure there are more.

Can anyone beat that?

If so, we should start a support group.

Jared
