My wife would tell you that I have issues. Several of them in fact. One of the biggest is that I plan to do something but don't actually get around to do it. I usually get started--- but then don't finish.

Some evidence--I was recently cleaning up my garage and found several parts that I have purchased for my 80 but never got around to installing on said 80.

Example 1: New cigarette lighter I purchased from @cruiserdan in 2010.
Example 2: LED lights I purchased from @george_tlc in 2010
Example 3: Resistors for the temp sensor mod I purchased from @medtro in 2007

I am sure there are more.

Can anyone beat that?

If so, we should start a support group.

Jared

I've got at least one from the 90's. I'll dig it out.

Not LC related but I have boxes of new OEM CB450 parts, pistons, gaskets, etc, that I've had for 30 years from back when I was building a lot of them.
Not doing that anymore.
Any DOHC nuts want some parts cheap?

I have a pair of new NOS acrylic K0 tank badges with a dealer receipt from a long closed Honda dealer from the early 90s.
They were worth a mint for a while, but now better quality cheap knockoffs have lowered their value

We had an FJ40 project we did here last year that the guy's dad took apart in 1979-1980 to paint it and never put it back together, there were several Toyota parts bags with mid-1980's dates on them.

When i bought my 94 Land Cruiser in January 2015 i heard all the talk about head gaskets going bad on the 1FZ-FE engine. So i bought a factory Toyota Valve grind kit P/N 04112-66030 to replace the head gasket when it failed. Well it's now going on 11 years since i bought that kit, and to date, it's still sitting in my shop unused because my original head gasket is still working fine.

Picked 2/5/1998

I finally gave up and sold my R151F trans and 23 spline R1A transfer case earlier this year. Pretty sure I bought them around 2005. I sold the truck they were slated to go in back in like 2010. Had big plans for a first gen 4runner swapped to a 3.4 V6 and dual transfer cases, but I finally let it go.

I'm only within the last 4 years but do I get points for having boxes and shelves of parts to cars I don't and have never owned?

There is a gen 2 head gasket that's newer than the one you have and it fixes the common failure points at the back of the block.

My dad bought a replacement antenna mast for his 4Runner in 2004. Still under my bed, and the 4Runner (now stored away) still has a broken antenna.

By the way...

That thing was (and still is to this day) incredibly stupid money. I still can't believe that I actually bought one. The box hasn't been cut open to this day.

It's hard to imagine that a 5 gallon (OK, 20 liter) gas can can cost this much.....

I bought a OE replacement thermostatic choke for the QJet on my K5 that took 22 years until I got around to installing it.🤦🏻

Mk 4 Supra Series 1 headlights I bought from C-Dan in mid 2000s. Still in the attic.
Aren’t those worth dumb money now?

Thank you everyone for posting this. I was feeling guilty, maybe also a bit like an addict for hoarding boxes of parts from 4-5 years ago. But now I see I'm not so unusual and I can continue on buying parts and thinking about installing them...someday. 🙌
