Great pics! Can the cup holders be completely removed to shortened the overall mounting length from these 2 consoles? (I have a toybox shifter in that location.) Thanks!

They can on the Tuffy, they just bolt on to the front or the rear.

I think you may need to cut a bit to do so - won't be as easy as the tuffy... but yeah it's doable.

after using the Smitty for a while in the 87 it's been great. I have to say the cup holders only work OK. Great for larger drinks, but the odd size (especially tall and skinny like water bottles) can get a bit wobbly. Shorter soda size - no problem. The little squeeze arm is not as useful as i'd hoped - it easily kicks out when tighter to hold a drink.

Small things that are really acceptable considering the savings over Tuffy (which i also have and love in the 84).

looked at my pics again a bit closer - there is a metal base under the cup holder i remember now. So yes you can remove it, but it will need cutting/modding to do so.

:clap:That is the kind of comparision I like! Never have too many pictures.
Thanks, somewhere along the way we'll meet and I'll buy you a drink!
IMO it would be easy to get a good upgraded lock from a lock shop.

After 4yrs+ of using my Smity, one of the welds that holds the hinge for the top to the back (and subsequently also holds that side to the back) popped. Lid now has a wobble to it when it opens, flexing the entire back piece. Looks like I am going to have to remove, grind off the PC and weld the thing together again.

Interesting seeing the differences side by side. I'll be keeping my 10" Tuffy, but customizing it to look more factory.

I just wish there were better options for cup holders. I'm not a fan of the Tuffy, and I hear the Smitty sucks balls.

Have you seen this for cup holders:

I know you already have cup holders with the aftermarket consoles, but one can never have too many cup holders, right? I got both the front and rear holders for my 62 (I have the stock console) and the replacement cup holders for the 200. The wife and I are very happy with the product.

for those who have used both is one easier to get into for daily use. sometimes a one handed opening is necessary. can you do that with either? ease of use is really what i’m looking for. if someone breaks into my truck the stuff in the console is the least of my worries. i’d like something that doesn’t keep me out when i want to get in easily

Just installed my Smitty with my new carpet and SOR interior. Love it, especially for $90!
