On this week's episode of the Classic Land Cruisers podcast @huminajumina joins me to talk flying, fishing and his Fj40 and Fj62. We lament the pitfalls of the 3 speed transmissions and celebrate all things Land Cruisers and how they enable us to get into the wilderness areas and

Hi Dan. What sort of equipment are you using for your podcast? I am thinking about turning some of my talks into podcast topics and I stumbled across Tom Buck’s website where he shares tips on media production equipment and processes. I was just curious if you were using microphones and media switches, etc. ?

Here is his site if you are interested: Tom Buck - https://himynameistom.com/

Don’t worry about competition. You have a great niche here. My biz is focused on organizational improvement. The Improvement Habit. Cheers.

So I am going to open the curtain to the wizard for a little bit. It is going to be a surprise to a lot of you but I am kinda a fly by the seat of my pants operation. I record through an app on my phone called Riverside a subsidiary of Spotify. It does audio and video. On the website you can edit and add stuff to it or take stuff out.

It’s okay to show behind the curtain. We need more of that in the world as it shows that we are all human doing great things with what we have. It’s the content that matters.

I’ve been recording YouTube videos for 16 years with a phone or PC AV. It works though I am ready to try out some new equipment. I just recently repurposed a YouTube channel for the Cruiser adventures called In Low Gear and that AV is from an iPhone 12.

Up until this year I really only used that channel to repost videos on this forum to seek advice and my other website and channel was where I spent most of my time. I’ve had a lot of fun with the Cruiser channel.

Keep chasing your following and keep up the outstanding work. I know how much work one episode is and I assume like me that you have another job on top of that. I’m really enjoying the talks.

I do use some ear buds while recording to cut down on me hearing background noise. I really should invest in some better quality production equipment. If I am going to continue recording through my phone I should probably get a new phone. For editing my laptop is really slow and I should also get a faster laptop with better processing. But yes I do have a full time job and I am nowhere near the Joe Rogan Experience level.

In addition to the loads of other crap I’d gotten into over the years, I have been a recording guitarist for decades. With today’s technology, either pc, Mac or tablet you can use some free software, a very inexpensive audio input device and some cheap mics total cost well under $100 and do some remarkable recording, editing and mastering rather easily.

A quick foray on Google or ChatGPT will show a bunch of cool ideas

I don't do recording, but a fast computer is a true godsend. A lot of people making vids would be better served with developing editing skills. I really hate those folks that have a long, store bought professional intro and then yak on threw wind noise and camera movements that cause motion sickness ... And now its the unlabeled youtube AI (PU) generated recut and pieced together crap ie. World War Eye Eye and the Me One Hundred and Nine not world war two and "M" "E" one "O" nine.

It will be interesting to see if AI changes the grammar for the next generation of kids raised on a fone.
Rant Off

Cheers! I try to keep my camera steady and edit out the content that looks like it was filmed by the Blair Witch Project. There are AI tools that will automatically splice together clips from content that you link to the program and it will output as many clips as you want and automatically post them to all social media sites that you’ve linked to it. I’m not into that. I’m old school. We have some film that we recorded on VHS that we want to get digitized.

Can you recommend an inexpensive microphone that you have used? Do you have a YouTube link where we could listen to the outputs?

Fun fact the bass guitar solo that book ends each episode is my brother. I got this idea from Micheal Emery but the starting engine at the beginning is my land cruiser starting.

I just recently repurposed a YouTube channel for the Cruiser adventures
The Riverside AI lately has been taking out about 1 minute snippets from the interviews that I decided to resurrect my Tictok and share them to. The thing is I can't stand TT and the only reason that I do it is to honestly drive more traffic to the podcast.

I have to manually go in and splice everything together and get the dead air out.

I suppose I was thinking about edited content. What is your subscriber count? I wonder how large the Cruiser base is.

I don’t know if this will help, but I reposted your podcast on my In Low Gear Facebook page. I’ll make a point to do this for each new episode. Perhaps others would be interested in reposting as well.
