This one has been in the works for a while.

I’ve been running 700-15 bias ply tires.

I recently was able to spend some time with the Yokohama team out in California. We talked tires a lot and I told them I was a huge BFG homer.

They wanted me to test out a set of their new MT003s for the type wheeling I do.

I really wanted to use them on Patina but I did not want to run 31x10.50’s or 33x10.50s. I wanted a bit more diameter to lower my RPMs but narrow to keep my nice manual steering feel.

    I settled on 235/85/16’s.....

    16’s you ask?

Well @Racer65 is kind enough to broker some really cool wheel some Australian dude designed. Solid steel 16’s built like OEM steelies with hubcap clips made in Japan.

    16" Wheels / Rims for Land Cruiser FJ40 FJ45 FJ60 70 Series

I also got a reproduction set of Toyota acorn hubcaps. The 68 was a transition year for black rims and acorns and after @treerootCO sent me the factory brochure with them on a 68 I had to transform Patina

City Racer says 2-3 weeks to ship. They arrived FedEx International 2 days later. That’s insane.

Being this is Project Patina it seemed fitting I should just use my local tire guy to mount them up

I’m super impressed with the wheels. They feel and look exactly like OEM 15” steelies but they balance us better than any I have had.

    Great quality wheels.

Tires are marked with a green dot to line up with the valve stem. They all took just one tiny weight for balance.

I have the same size BFG KO2 on my M416 and the Yokohama are much taller.

    They dwarfed my 700-15s

This size worked out perfectly on my non lifted 40. Steering is manual and it steers just as good as before.

Very very pleased with both tires and wheels.

I’ll keep reporting in on the tires

Been wanting those rims for a while now...nice to see them on a mud member's rig.

    Tires are fly too!

    WN,

You might want to share the typical price of the tires for those who'd like to know and are considering them vs BFG M/T etc..

KM3’s will be out this month. I don’t thing the price changed much.

I’m getting a set of 33x10.50s for my FJ60 on a preorder deal.

Me too. The tires gave me an excuse.

The quality is outstanding. The powder is thick. Made in Japan. Really really nice

Couldn't find 33x10.5s on their website. Have they not officially come out with that size yet?

Trying to decide on these or km3's for my 60. These looked great on Patina in person.

I’ve not looked for Yokos in that size but I thought they made a 33x10.50 in the G003

Edit. They damn sure don’t. BFG will continue to own the Tiny cruiser market

My KM3s should be in this week for the 60

I’m interested to see how wide they end up being. The few sets I have seen of other sizes look very wide.

    I’ll keep you posted.

Patina looks great. Yokohama makes nice stuff.

General offers a 33/10.5r15 Grabber X3. Run em on my BJ.

I put another 100 miles on the Yokohama’s today. I’m giddy over them.

For the record, my Yokohama M/T G003’s in 235/85/16 are a solid 1” taller at the Hub (measured from the ground up) was than the 235/85/16 BFG KO2’s I have.

    Ground to hub is 15”

Ground to hub on my 33x10.50x15 BFG KM2s are also 15”

So. We all know BFG runs small but now I know Yokohama runs large to size.

It’s a solid tall skinny fit those looking in the 33x9.50 world we once loved so.

I lost none of my great, easy skinny tire steering but gained a pillow smooth ride at 32 psi. All my top speed is still there. Braking is still great and the looks are off the hook.

Thanks for all the great feedback on this combo!

Do you have an opinion on the ride noise? Hard to tell from your video clip.
