I agree if your talking about the part that connects to the whozeewhatzit via the klangerfelter linkage.
Sorry for chiming in so late, but I was thinking on the low gear switch idea and what I would do if it were me. I would forget if it were on the dash. So to help avoid forgetting I might attach a push button type switch on the shift lever itself just under the shift knob. That way it would be right there and I would be less likely to forget to use it. Ugly, but it might work.
Keith: If/when you change your mind about installing a switch on the shifter(s) here are a couple interesting switches you might consider:

I've used them both and they are low profile and could be installed so they look pretty svelte!

just the stock arm ... I'm going to get the LoKar part # Aca 1802 on it so I can get it to shift into all the gears

I am actually considering this already as the indicator switch idea I had originally isnt going to work as I had planned. After looking at the bracket a bit more and lining the shfiters up, I could come straight off the side of the shifter bracket and set some switches in front of them. Just gotta find the RIGHT switch. Those wouldnt quite work so well with how I would need to do it. Something like a brake switch, or maybe something like those micro switches with the lever arm would be about ideal. Finding a good durable one is a different story.

Also... Wanna give a big thanks to rob (landcrusher99) for hooking me up with some hard to find stock parts!!! Sneaky devil just sent em to me!! Window gasket, rear view mirrors, windshield knobs... Thanks a ton brother!!!

If you do mount the switch to the shifters set it up so that it works like a brake switch, set it so that the shifter handle when in high the botton is depressed and has no continuity between posts. Also setup the switch so that it can take into account the slop/backlash in the shifter handle... It may be easier to weld some flat plate onto the shifter handle so that the button has a striker plate....
I've got a spare full-throttle switch and bracket from a CA-smog '76-'78 (at least) fj40. I'm guessing it fits the good and durable bill and the price is 'reasonable'.

Thanks man. I did manage to find one at Summit though that was sealed and water proof. That was one of my big concerns with mounting it on the shfters. Its a Ron Davis switch that should fit the bill for what I need perfectly, and its also relatively adjustable.
