Quick question I have a 62 sprung under with ome heavy springs could the longer chevy springs take place of the ome springs and have around the same lift?

You would probably need to aim for a lift spring, the stock Chevy springs are pretty flat. Local 60 guy runs 3" OME springs up front and 3" 63" Chevy springs in the rear, SUA.

A side note for SOA guys. The FZJ80 ebrake I used is a lot longer than the one off my 62. It has plenty of slack and actually bolts up properly to the axle. When I first went SOA and used the stock ebrake cable, it stretched and barely made everything work. It would not make the mounts on the axle.

FZJ80 sway bars don't work on leaf sprung vehicles. FZJ80 sway bar mounts to the back of the rear axle and go under forward. It is also way too wide to fit in between leaf packs.

Fortunately I can use my stock 62 sway bar albeit not as beefy as the 80 series one.

Custom rear brake lines all installed. I'm guessing my 24" soft line from axle to frame may be cutting it tight. Will have to check articulation soon.

Rear axle got reman calipers finally installed with new pads. Still need to rebuild axle seals and bearings this week among other things.

So I finally made time this past sunday to weld in new rear spring hanger mounts. All in all the ride is a lot better already.

Then last night I started on adjusting the spring packs and new U-Bolts. I got the passenger side done and when I was about to button up and tighten the rear shackle I noticed the bushings stick out farther on the main spring eye than they do on the frame mount.

The original bushings in the old 63 springs were flush with the spring itself and did not stick out. I am guessing I need to find new chevy bushings that press in and match?

Anyone have this issue with their chevy spring swap? I can grab a picture today after work.

Here is an example of the style I think I need?

Bump stops installed and frankenstein leaf packs assembled.

Hows the ride? That's a beefy spring pack. Nice truck btw.

Will check ride after work. Finished too late for a test drive.

Wow that is a thick pack. Curious how it will ride as well. The shackle angle looks better now.

If the ride is too stiff and you need the rear to come down I'd take out from the top going down: #3, #5, and #7.

I'm really not sure how people get away with such thin spring packs. When I'm loaded with 5 people, gear of the roof and in the cargo area, 4x4 labs rear bumper, 15 gallons of fuel, and a spare tire..... The truck is heavy!

How do people wheel fully loaded?

Years ago I ran stock rear springs plus one long add a leaf. Those days are over when you add heavy bumpers and people.

Regarding the spring pack. I'm concerned about the #3 leaf hitting the #2 leaf when fully stuffed. Will have to watch this as things settle.

I agree with the springs to remove if the ride is too stiff. I'm not happy that the springs I have didn't come with a military wrap. I'd prefer that extra safety.

Measured for shocks yesterday. Numbers are eye to eye in inches.

Front Suspension: Ford shock towers up top, proffitt's cruisers CnT axle with their welded on stud at mid axle housing height.
Fully extended 33"
Fully Compressed 21.25"
11.75" travel

Rear Suspension: Stock upper shock mount, rear copied off front (stud welded at axle housing center).
Fully extended 24"
Fully compressed 14"
10" travel

*The fully compressed was not at full stuff, just a quick measurement. No ramp, used hi-lift in driveway.
*Rear springs are probably too stiff and rear bump stop probably too high but I wanted it done quick for memorial day.

Air bags in the rear is the answer your looking for.

Flexy spring packs with air bags. Ok.

How is the articulation with air bags for crawling?

Air is cool because you can easily deflate the rear bags and you're left with just the leaf spring articulating, so you would then just be limited by the total length of the bag when stretched out.

The problem I see with deflating them all the way is now I am left with no load carrying capacity which is the reason I would need them.

The other issue I see is if an air bag fails then I am now carrying the load with just the spring.

I am finding it hard to get max flex in the rear while carrying a large load.

Cheap shocks in and almost finished with custom center console switch panel. Ripped out my old one and standardizing with two rows of six carling switches. Turning out nice so far.
