Center Console options

Has anyone looked into taking a center console from other vehicles and putting it into the land cruiser? There are so many really nice ones that appear to be high enough, narrow enough, and yet still big enough to have great storage, cup holders built-in, and look really nice.

Anybody ever looked into the options that would fit?
I used the Tuffy console and it has worked well for me...

I'm torn betwen the Tuffy console and the console from the 2001 Tahoe. Does the tuffy console require any cutting to fit?

Here's some pics of my Tuffy install. It's the 8" wide model with the space for a radio.

The key to making it work are the rear legs. Each is a bolt that is reinforced by being cased in square steel tubing. This levels things out. It also raises the console a little bit which halps my shoulder (more below). The concept will also work with the many consoles that assume a flat mounting location. The 80 series has a slope you have to compensate for. Note that I used the space there to put one of our 400 w inverters, as well as adding a 12 v outlet array.

The second pic below on the right is an overhead shot. The box is displaced the right, so it's a little tighter to sit in the passenger seat, if that might be a consideration for a regular passenger. Driver is plenty roomy. You may be able to shift slightly towards driver, I don't recall exactly, but unless you move the E-brake, you must leave room to get your fingers around it and pull. You can see where the first extinguisher and the CB use the spec behind the E-brake, out of the way, but easily reachable.

There should be 2 more pics here. Assuming there are, one shows you the upper back. That's where I installed the Tuffy cupholder. It just clears the rear seat when it folds where I have the box positioned.

The last, side view shows the front to rear location of mine. I pushed it a little more forward than might be typical, because I use the console to rest my elbow on a lot on long trips because my right shoulder is trashed. It is possible to strike your elbow, just barely, when quickly turning the wheel. I remember not to do that now and actually need it that close, but it's a reminder to double check the location is suitable for your anticipated use.

I riveted a piece of a mudflap over the open area left from removal of the factory console.

EDIT: BTW, No cutting required on the Tuffy, although I did have to drill holes for electrical and coax for the radio IIRC. Don't want to have to cut much on a Tuffy. They really are "tuff."

4xfletch.....how far back does it interfere with rear passengers?

Its about 5 inches from the back seat. Nice thing is it has ducts in it to connect rear heat to. Here is a pic of the back seat.
