Quick update: I dropped the oil pan and found metal shavings. Engine is toast. I really enjoyed the 10 miles I drove. Looking at options now. Rebuild or buy a low mileage engine.

You have a much better attitude than I would have. You might as well do another engine swap when you're mentally "ready" for round 2. Honestly, it will go much faster the second time, even if initially it feels overwhelmingly frustrating.

What's your experience telling you now ? I'm sorry I had to do it.

Yea, that's not very nice. :frown:
I am going to put another 6.2. I still like them. Drain all the oil out of any engine via a busted oil line and it will start to eat it self. It'll be really easy to swap another one in now. And actually there are some things I felt that I could have done better so this will be my chance to do those things and dress up the motor/ engine compartment a little.

Thanks Nukegoat. I feel the same way. Learning a lot and still having fun. Would have loved to spend the money on other mods but that will all come in time.

At this point, dropping in another 6.2 would be a piece of cake :)

Plus, I don't think your experience is typical - just bad luck.

Keep us posted on what happened

New motor is here!

I have the new Engine! This time its a slightly more powerful HMMWV motor.

Time to get to work!
Installing new water pump, oil pump, glow plugs, high pressure oil cooler lines, and some high temp POR 15 paint.

I have always been disappointed with the lack of real cup holders and a good center console so I installed what I think our FJ80's should have came with.

It's from a 2001 Tahoe and the color matches perfectly. A little trimming and it fits perfectly.

What do you think?

My new diesel cruiser is finally street legal! It was a long frustrating process but the state finally recognizes her as a diesel and I have plates.
So far everything is working well. Now that I can start driver her more often I'll see what type of fuel economy I am getting.
I feel more power on the 6.2 than the 4.5 and sure sounds a lot better. Very happy with it.

I'll have to get some pictures up soon.

That's the best console cup holder combo I've seen on all these posts for the Cruiser!

It appears to be lower than the one in the LC. Is that right? What bracket mods did you have to do to make it fit? I have the tan interior, but I see they are available in a version of tan, but I can always spray the ultra vinyl to the correct color. Do you have more pics of it open / closed, front, back.....

Thank you, I really like it. Yes, this console did end up lower than the OEM. I made one bracket shaped like a "C" to bolt to the orignal mounting on the floor board and either side of the "C" mounted to the sides of the new center console. At the moment I only have one picture of the console marked out to be trimmed. I can get more pics up for you though.

Look's like you've found what I' been looking for! Could you post some pics of it from the 2nd row? I have tall kids and can't afford to lose much leg room.

Very interesting center console. Looks great!

Congrats on your install and then I guess your re-install, sounds like just bad luck with the first one. I do feel your pain, I finally put about the fourth tank of diesel through my 6.5 this week. I am absolutely loving the 6.5TD in my LC!! Thanks for the write up and taking the time to share your journey, it sure isn't easy!!

Thanks! Great to hear you did the same with success. Do you have A/C? If so, what did you do? I'm trying to decide building brackets to install the toyota compressor or pulling the trigger on a serpenatine setup and use a GM compressor and just have new hoses made. Going to be really hot here in Atlanta soon, got to make up my mind.

I'm really curious about the "power felt" difference with a TD too.

Here are the pictures from the 2nd row. It almost makes the middle seating in the 2nd row unusable. So it won't work for people that need all 3 spots.

Probably won't work for me. But, it does look pretty good. Thanks for the pics.

I do not have AC yet but do have plans in place to add it. I already did the serpentine belt set-up so I will use a GM compressor and have hoses made. I don't expect it to be a big deal but it will probably turn out that way like everything else!!

I'm not sure how much the turbo helps but I can sure hear it spooling up on grades and especially on the trail. The power difference is amazing, I actually enjoy driving it on the interstate now.

The transformation is complete! I received the new title yesterday classifying it as a diesel. It drives great and sounds like a tractor. Can't wait to take it on the trails once I rebuild the front axle. Here are some pictures of how she looks today:

I really like that center console, can you fold the middle row with that there? I know this is a random question but could you pop the cup holders out and flip them around? I was thinking if you would do that you could trim off the front end including that "pocket" with the cup holders to allow the console room to move forward. I might have to steal this idea.
