From what you're describing, I agree with you that your likely solution is more "heat sink reserve" (larger, more efficient radiator). All of the other components seem to be right on the money, so I'd think increasing the capacity and having a clean radiator should do the trick......time will tell
 
I did put a bottle of Water Wetter in over the weekend and burped the system again (don't think I had any burps). After a few days of driving in the mid-upper 90's, I'm seeing little to no measurable drop in temperatures... 1 - 2 degrees at most. This wasn't going to change my long-term plan, but figured I'd post the results of the experiment.
 
I too tried that product mentioned above....no positive impact, I was having cooling issues and did it on a "what the hell" approach. Waste of my time and $$. I"m not a fan of various additives and magical treatments, its weird...you'll find people who swear by them, I've met very few mechanics who recommend additives...from coolant to fuel to whatever. Excluding diesel fuel stuff and the gas product stabil.
 
Water Wetter is basically just a surfactant which lowers the surface tension between the coolant and the metal of the radiator. At best it may give you a few degrees of imoroved thermal transfer. I've been told that a few drops of liquid dish washing soap will do the same thing. YRMV
 
If I had to guess, the Toyota red I'm running already has a surfactant. WW smells similar to anti-freeze. It was a WTH "mod", with no expectation of performance.

For whatever the reason, the 308 GTR the Ferrari dealership used to track (similar to the one below) experienced noticeable temperature improvements simply from the addition of WW. Granted, it's been 24 years since I worked there, so I can't remember what "noticeable" was, but I do remember everyone being impressed with whatever temperature drop it was. Also, I don't remember for sure, but there's a possibility they may have been using 100% water in that engine, and that may have contributed to the WW's effectiveness.

Like you said, it was a cheap wth effort in the 60. Sorry it didn't work better/at all.

239 degrees, huh? Maybe I should just buy a higher pressure radiator cap and be done with it!

On an un-related note... I had to drive up to Ft. Campbell today. On the way back, a Cummins Dodge (behind me) tried to roll coal on me when we both went to pass an 18-wheeler at the same time. Well, I rolled rice, or grass-fed beef, or whatever and didn't let him gain any ground. He backed off in defeat. It was awesome.
 
Slight update:

My exhaust had a drone below 2K rpms, which is where the majority of street driving occurs. I needed to have my exhaust modified to accommodate the suspension swap, so I took the opportunity to add a resonator to the tailpipe.

It is quieter overall, but it is a huge improvement. I would do this from the start if I were doing it over again.

When did you convert to rear coils?!! I'd love to take a look at your pictures!

Didn't realize such compact resonators existed! Next time I go down the tailpipe fab path, which was only about 18-months ago, I'm going to have them do the same (compact resonator).

there are a number of difference styles of resonator....some appear to be mini-mufflers...etc. Just google "exhaust resonator" for some pics. You'll notice that Tahoe's and various other trucks have them...but they are part of the tail pipe assembly. FYI
I'm thinking about having one put on, when I have my exhaust redone...later on.

Did you have any issues with getting the auto transmission to shift correctly? Either up-shifting under normal throttle or hard throttle and downshifting as appropriate...if so what was the adjustment if any?

No, it works as though it is still in the '07 Sierra :D
 
what are the issues with the drive shaft clearance for the front driveshaft? I see where people are runing the camaro oil pan....is that part of the depth clearance or also related to side clearance (i see the driveshaft is close)...

Is the problem that the 60 transfercase does not stick out far enough.... just wondering what the "for sure" solution is" I know you you can't change the transfercase alignment...other than getting the engine as far over to the driver side as possible.
 
Yeah, it's just tight in every direction. The muscle car pan is the one to use IMO. See the pics of that vs. the Camaro pan in the thread. You'll want an FJ62 front driveshaft since it has a longer slip joint (skinny part). This helps it get past the trans pan, which needs a little clearancing with a hammer.
 
I stopped by Four Seasons Radiator (local custom radiator fab shop) today to get a custom radiator & shroud started. Since I have both inlet & outlet on the same side (might be my issue), they're going to do a dual pass style with the tanks on the side.

I kept stressing that I wanted to be able to idle in the desert with the AC on or blast out of Death Valley when it's a million degrees out and the owner just laughed and said not to worry.

I left a stock radiator for them to use for measuring and showed them where to put the hoses. Should be ready in a week or two. Stay tuned.

Sorry for the hijack. I am performing a similar swap in May and will have drivetrain parts for sale. The stock GM stuff is nothing special but may fit into someone's low buck project and along with the Toyota transfer case would be a solid score.
Yes I admit to some shameless plugging but we all try to look out for others and I don't want this stuff to rot in the wrecking yard if it will be a good fit in another truck.
