I need some last minute camping site recommendations for this coming weekend. Will be our Sat and Sun nights in NE GA or western NC. Away from people is good which will be difficult on Sat and especially arriving late with slim pickings.

Thoughts?

We don't need any stinking facilities either.

Steve, ever been to Lake Burton? Check it out. There are a lot of primitive sites for free and the lake is amazing...plus the marina has a pretty good restaurant/bar. If you are interested PM me or email me and I can send you the coords to where we camped as well as some coords to some fun "roads"

I'd go to the sandy ford area. Close and there should be plenty of sites open before the river. Could also try crossing war woman and seeing if there is anything over there. The river keeps all the non 4X4's out of that side.

So I take it you don't have any recommendations. That was helpful.

I would know them all if I didn't work the long hours I do.

Steve you likely know or have seen these roads before, but if not check them out as I am sure there is "remote" camping opportunities scattered along some of them

I took a "short cut" one year when we were in Cherokee/GSMNP trying to get to Cades Cove. Note to anyone of you, follow the signs to Cades COve, there are no "short cuts" ;)

Anyway on my short cut all 6 of us were all piled in the 80 and loaded down with the Yakima box I ended up taming the dragon, on a horse trail, literally, we were driving behind 2 horses before we hit a gate that went through private property that was for horses only. Mories for sure, but we never made it to Cades Cove. When we tamed the dragon I was behind a Lotus for abotu 1/2 of it, the S2K behind me loved me lol. Cool places to visit, just not a good, "short cut":)
