I bought the 12 foot hose that doesn't specifically state it won't leach oils into the fuel stream and also the filter below. The Buddy people told me it is fine but to run a filter with either hose for good measure, and I figured I'd prefer the cheaper hose that stayed more flexible in the cold (opposed to the green one above) with a filter for about the same money as the green one with no filter (green will be stiffer in cold). But really, I use it with the hose 10-20 hours per year. I'll lose or break something before I'll wear it out or clog a filter.

@slceso Make sure you read up on refilling those green tanks. There are many inherent risks. And IIRC, they're technically not allowed on interstates if refilled. Plenty of people use them with success. Short run time overnight is my big gripe. Sarah likes it toasty and she sleeps 2-3 times longer than most of us.

I brought my little Buddy heater to the Christmas party. I used the green hose and 20lb tank and the tent was damn comfortable. Well it was until my wife woke up in the morning and decided to turn it off to conserve gas.

If you use the leaching hose regularly, plan on replacing the filter about once a year. I wish I could find the part number for the hose I got, because it's non-leaching, 12ft and stays flexible in cold (mine's black, not green).

God bless 'em!

So this was the night of the chili contest? I bet she had a different reason for turning it off.

Does anyone use a SUV tent?

Considering buying one of these.

Amazon.com: Explorer 2 SUV Tent: Sports & Outdoors

Amazon.com : Texsport 5 Person Retreat SUV Truck Tent with carry storage bag : Sports & Outdoors

The Explorer 2 Tent would be nice bc cause you could set it up anywhere you can park the 80.

The 5 person is appealing. with the 80 attached it seems like you would have another room attached, and have the tailgate utilized as a table, chair, little buddy heater stand, etc...:hmm: It nice to think you could access the truck with out ever leaving the tent.

See that is a good wife - my wife would turn it up and run the tank dry - - all while kicking the covers off about 3 AM for being hot. :)

Of course, my wife also wouldn't allow a heater in the tent, which is awesome, too - each of us for our different reasons - she is scared of carbon monoxide poisoning and I just don't want to mess with heaters. Kansans are pioneers, dammit, we are supposed to suffer!

I am JUST starting to look into this. I doubt we will go this direction as we already have a nice 10x10 that we need to use, but will share any info I find on here. I wanted to camp in the truck, but Wife isn't gonna do it, and I don't "blame" her to be honest.

We are also looking at getting an "intentionally too small" bed slide to mount in the truck bed to use for tie downs, mount a fridge, etc, so that kinda kicks us out to the tent as well.

Original plan was to get one of these type tents and then just put all of our Action Packers on top the rack on the truck at night.

But now we will have an internal-mounted spare and other stuff kinda crowding our back end.

I've got an explorer tent, haven't had a chance to use it yet. I like the connected tent option too. would work great as a screen room

Soft Gear Bags:

I use gear bags for the soft stuff. I highly recommend the military surplus USGI Flyer's Kit bag. The older ones are canvas, recent units are nylon. They are large, zip closed and keep dust out of your gear. Corners are squared off so when stuffed and stowed not much space is wasted.

Key Features
  • U.S. military issue
  • Sturdy 100% Olive Drab cotton canvas
  • Full-length zipper with snap storm flap
  • Strong web carry handles
  • 23 x 12 x 19"h. or 5,244 cu. in. capacity
  • Condition: Used in like new shape
  • USA made
Sportsmans Guide has them for $20 here:

Googling the Explorer2 tent and came across this. Had to share. Gotta give him credit for thinking outside the box.

I think I may have found my X mas present to me, just the tent portion

We went to Cabellas in Greenville today to do some cot comparing. I think we are going with these. Extra long and wide.

Cabela's Outfitter XL Cot with Pivot Arm : Cabela's

This tent The tent we have now is a smaller 8 year old version of this one, still kicking. Just want to be able to stand and have cots. Old knees :)
6'8" center height

I have a couple of gander mountain cots similar but not as nice probably, but they have steel frames that are heavy as hell, and if it gets very cold out your ass freezes like in a hammock since your sleeping bag squishes out. I tried them twice and now they are for spare bed use if we have too much company at the house. I'm probably doing it wrong.
