I was amazed as my buddy (welder by trade) made me a custom top for my tranny hump (accommodate a SM465).
All done with short-tacks, super clean....

plan on giving it a try when I make my 1/2 doors.

yea, like i said it can be done...its a bit more work and can be a PITA if its thin metal....what i like to do is tack it with mig and then gas or tig the rest...i think its probably quicker then doing a million tacks and plus if your good it can look real purdy. i think ill tack and then tig mine (if i can get my hands on a TIG before my half doors get made...

and the moment we've all been waiting for.

with the help of my new little friend

trust me they look 10x better in person.

i got it at sears for 280.00 and they gave me a free impact wrench and a rachet along with an air hammer, its 33 gallons, havent used it for anything but paint so far. and it works good for that.

dont know if its a pos or not till i try to break it. probably test its limits this weekend

okay new hardware and installed, take a look, what do you think

VERY NICE JOB....cam, I hope mine turn out that purdie.

WAIT! no integrated cup holders?

awsome job cam.

oh i never said i was finished. j/k

when i put the top on and full doors i can work on them some more over the winter time. ill see what i can do.:)

Well those turned out good.
As I was reading I was thinking maybe hurculine the tops to help conceal the welds or edges. May help smoth them out a bit if your welds suck like mine.
I am in the process of doing the same thing and am spraying the inside with Zero Rust through the access panels. Also got one of those long 24" drill attachments to be able to wirebrush the insides a bit to get the dirt, rust and crud out from the inside and bottom before spraying them.
Did you spray the hurculiner of brush it?

i just rolled it, to small area to worry about spraying, and i just dont care that much to take the time to spray, rolling looks nice,

i wanted to keep the tops smooth and have the liner match up to the tub line (tub is herculined)

just keep grinding and welding till the tops are smooth.
