Charles has all the cool ****e.
Having cool stuff is my life ......

Boy this peanut gallery sure is entertaining! :)

Now that all the jokes are over, can anyone tell me what color the illumination actually is? :) I'd like to make sure whatever stereo I order has a matching color. Looking for something plain and simple that will blend in as well as possible.

Also, can someone measure the passenger side grab rail for me please? I think one of these 2 Ram mounts will work: .5"-1.25" diameter or this one for v-shaped mount (might match the grab rail better, it looks more square than round).

It's kinda greenish but it is difficult to describe.

Yeah, it is difficult to describe in a polite fashion. It is green as Dan states, but getting a stereo to match that is not a Mr. T product will be difficult, I believe.

The fun never ends. After you get done spiffing up the 74 you will need to buy a really rare, almost unobtainable example so you can continue to hone your skills. Hmmmmmmm....Mega Cruiser....yeah, that's the ticket!

15BT turbo diesel (the 13BT's big brother), 4-wheel-steering and HUGE. I got a chance to drive one and they actually get up and go.

My gut feeling is that it will be nearly impossible to find a radio with the same background lighting as your Cruiser.

Thanks for the bumper pics! Keep em coming!

I'v seen the single din/switch bank done on some ones build, cant remember who's but it looks like a nice setup. Sorry can't help with the measurements again, seems like I'm gone when ever some one asks! But I'v had good luck with the RAM LIL' BUDDY mount, it uses a adhesive tape instead of a clamp, so you can stick em any were. Mine was been on for years and shows no sign of coming unstuck. For cup holders I was looking at removing the rear heater and trying to fit a Tuffy console.

unless you're a math whiz get a "speedometer app for your iphone…..so you can see how fast (in MPH) you are/aren't traveling.

I've been practicing my .62 times tables in my head!

HEADLIGHT UPGRADE:

Safety first! I'm going to order a set of replacement lamps, likely the Cibie's available on Amazon.
Bulb choices in 24V seem to be pretty limited, but I'm hoping these will work. h4 75/70 24v bulbs

I've looked at a few LED options but really want something that will be pretty stock-looking in appearance, but provide as good of light output as possible. Anyone have experience with the Roundeyes product? http://www.roundeyes.com/Toyota_Headlamps-7_Round_Toyota_Landcruiser_Conversion_Headlamps.html

Any other recommendations or do these choices sound good?

Thanks!

I also like the TruckLite LED's but if money is not an issue, go a step farther and get the JW Speaker LED's

But if you want to stay affordable and have a stock appearance then get yourself a set of IPF H4 housings (or the Cibies if you prefer)

Put in some Hella high output 100/90 watt bulbs:

For under a $100 you will have great visibility. If down the road you want to upgrade even farther then add a set of LED fog or driving lamps and you will have the best of both worlds. Personally I really like the combined effects of the yellow halogens headlamps with the white LED driving lights

I considered both the Trucklite and the JW Speaker and it sounds like the light output is better, I just don't like the aesthetics of them. On a late model Jeep, yes great. On a '89 JDM truck, not so great IMO.

@Malahki, do you think the stock wiring is suffient to run those 100/90 bulbs? Looks like that is the next step up from the75/70s I had found and linked to above.

Thanks!

Yes, I have been running those 100/90 watt bulbs for 5 years now, with no upgrade to the wiring harness. I finally had the first bulb burn out a couple months ago. I replaced both and kept the old one as a spare.

Jeep? Really?

OK, moving on.... The Trucklights are not obvious, just tastefully functional. Installed behind the bull bar and spots, they are flat and clean, not gaudy (as I would describe the JW Speakers).

I also liked the option of rewiring the truck from 24 v to 12 v without replacing the lights, which is now under way.

I have 24v Hella H4s the previous owner fitted. Great lamps.

When I first looked up Trucklites I found these which are sinfully ugly:

The newer model which you guys have looks much better, but I still prefer something a bit more "period correct."

I'll be going with the Cibie's and some Hella bulbs. Should be a nice combo for <$100. I just did a good amount of reading on the Hella E-code vs. Cibie's and it sounds like the consensus is the Cibies are slightly more expensive and slightly better. The main improvement seems to be the Cibie's have an easier time of aiming both the high and low beam. More than a few complaints on the Hellas being able to have either aimed properly but not booth.
