I saw a "new" version where they come already notched for the antenna. That would of saved me (well, pman and I) about an hour, and a few burns. Free shipping from US. I know another ATL member recently purchased one, maybe he got the per-notched" version.

oops , what an impulse buy ! Thanks a lot Nick . @ $167 including shipping I could not pass it up. I just hope that it is the same thing as what you got. Now you need to help me install when it gets here on the 8th. I hope it doesn't sit on my work bench like the rest of my mods have done.

Lets get it on before GSMTR. Let me know when it comes by. Just have some Stella awaiting :D Glad to see you snork'n it up

Just got the OK from the CFO, and ordered one last night. Same Safari knock-off on ebay, $168.50 with free shipping from CA. For that price, I couldn't pass it up.

What size hole has to be drilled for the main air tube? I would like to source one (hopefully borrow from a friend) before it arrives.

Big thanks to Nick for hanging in there with me until 12am on the install..:clap:

some interesting notes.
My budget snorkel had some slight differences than Nicks. One of the biggest was that it was already notched for the antenna which is a huge time saver. However the notch was a little large. Also the head unit on mine was slightly different and went on much easier, looked a little cleaner at the bottom edges. Other then that they were the same. The temple is OK, but I did have to punch an extra bolt hole on one due to misalignment and we think that the template is off on that one. (bottom lower door side) And of course had no directions with the kit.. Having a large drill , one with lots of torque is really the ticket. I had no issues with jumping or skidding while cutting the large hole but did run a pilot hole prior to the large cut.

Thanks again Nick !! pictures to come...

Was the template in yours the same as Nicks? Did you order for the same place, i am just curious as to why it is different in the aspects you mentioned.

I did not order from the same place , but did order off of eBay. It was the same picture and general description. It was interesting that a web address on the back of the snorkel had been some what removed.. I believe the temple was the same and it was packaged by the same methods as the temple is taped to the inside box with heavy tape which can result in ripping the template if not careful. (same as Nicks) It says Land Cruiser on it and all other parts and hardware were the same and looked to match the same build quality. It may be a select run for another company by the same manufacturer, or a second version by the same manufacturer notched for the antenna.

Did you guys get all the screws mounted or did you install it like Nick did?

Steve drilled another hole where I just injected JB weld under mine. There is nothing wrong with my method. They are the same in terms of mounting strength. I didn't feel like drilling 2 extra holes to get a stud in.

^ Why was JB weld needed? Did you forget to drill a hole or it was too hard to get to? I've been thinking about ordering one of these because they reviewed so well by so many different people.

The template is off for that stud. At the time I didn't know if I could redrill and be able to tighten the nut down, fearing I would make the hole to big and it would show. We finally left it off and I JB welded. I will eventually remove the snorkel and redrill now that I know you have enough room and it doesn't show.

Glad I am not the only one with a CFO...

I just installed my "budget" snorkel i got off Ebay. It was prenotched for the antenna, the notch was a perfect size. Everything fit well and it looks good. The intake on mine looks to be better than the other ones i've seen on here. Looks more like the new Safari intakes, actually it looks exactly like the new Safari intakes.
also, the template was spot on.

i'll take pics and post them.

I am trying to decide between the TJM, Safari and the "budget" snorkel. I am leaning towards the Safari design. The price point of the "budget" version is appealing but I don't want to sacrifice quality just to save $200. Is the Safari snorkels plastic better and thicker? Nick told me that they are identical but i am ALWAYS skeptical of buying a Chinese product over the real deal.

Also, since they have been baking in the GA sun for several months, how is the condition of the plastic?

I haven't seen any fading, the .99 cent snorkel head is holding up fine as well. I have had branches hit the snorkel fairly hard on some gravel roads. The plastic has got to be a difference hardness as the body is scratched up quite badly now. Nothing crazy, but larger diameter branches will definitely scar the finish. I will post some pictures after this from my cell phone.

Best ones I have within the past 2 months.
