I have a SD40 Carb with broken base. Looking for parts to repair and rebuild.

Alex, that air horn isn’t exactly round any more either.

I’ll take a look tomorrow.

atleast the sight glass still looks good.

what happened?

Update?

Sounds good. Please leave a VM when it actually ships. There are currently five carbs in transit on their way here, and I need to adjust my schedule accordingly.

Under the category of ‘from bad to worse’

Yes it’s 4:30 am and I am in the shop. Won’t be here regular hours today because I have to help my 82 year old mother move in to a seniors facility.

So I opened your package and immediately freaked out! I’ve NEVER had anyone shop an SD40 with such minimal packing before. And the irreplaceable sight glass right up against the box!

So miracle of miracles (or so I thought) the glass is not shattered. But when I started disassembling this jewel, it looks like your luck went from bad to worse Alex.

Mark, I’m not sure if you realize you chose a Public Thread instead of a Private Conversation to highlight my seemingly insufficient packing job.

I understand your delimma with time and parents. My 85 year old father passed on April 28, 2018 and now my 88 year old mother is requiring more of my attention on a daily basis. So I’ll ignore your lack of bedside manner as understandable behavior for a stressed out Vintage 4x4 mechanic.

From the brown/black discoloring of the sight glass in the top left corner above, this was an old chip no?

Would this chip cause a vacuum leak sufficient enough to affect performance?

Gas would leak out. I wonder if there is an epoxy of some sort that could work by gluing the chip back on.
