Thank you! I searched and searched for a 2jzgte. Couldn't find one less than 2k... Suddenly dawned on me, LS swap!

If my diesel blows up and sends rods out the block, LS swap will come to BOSSKLLA

Ordered these OME ultra heavies this Monday, they just arrived on my lunch break today, Thursday! Unreal.

Looking at these springs, would anyone recommend removing one of these full length leaves for comfort?
The front ill need heavy duty, but i don't have any extra weight in the back, at least not consistently.

Also curious if a simple 1/2"-1" spacer will take care of the locating dowel issue.

If nobody knows, I'll let y'all know how it pans out. Saturday morning, can't wait!

I made one spacer out of some round stock that I had laying around and turned it down on my lathe. My 62 didn't have any not sure where the po got the lift put on but they obviously didn't know about them.

Yea my dad has a lathe and if need be i could certainly go that route. He lives an hour away though so ill have to scour my local hardware stores.

There's ALWAYS a way

Also just for your entertainment, my welded leaf spring is broken already. It didn't even make the drive home!

How long before you put the new springs in could just order them. There is another thread about the isolator plates someone mentioned cutting them and using them as the bushings. Not sure how to post link but ssould be on the first or second page on here

Well, silly me didn't do my research. 2 3/4" and 3 1/4" U- bolts CANNOT be gotten from parts stores!

I'll have to reuse my stock bolts, at last temporarily. Local guy tells me, "You young guys worry too much. Just take this U bolt and bend it in a vice, and stick it in there!"

A 1/4" of slop on the rear leaves and the front axle is not comforting. Yea... no thank you!

Carnage starts tomorrow!

I've been reading up on this a lot. If my stock u bolts have enough length, I'll just throw the rubber isolators back in. Unless i can find something with close enough dimensions, it'll be fine.

I am guessing you don't have a local spring shop. We do and it takes them about 15 mins to bend up any set of u bolts you care for.

I love you crazy mechanic style. I am sure we would get along great minus the bud light. No offence, its a candian thing.

Thank you! We would get along, that is my neighbor holding the Bud. More of a Miller guy...

I do have a local spring shop now that i think of it. Last time i had them make u bolts i remember them being expensive. I should call them...

I must be a lame mechanic, i only got the rear springs in today.

Re used everything. Rubber isolators, u bolts, pins and bolts, and shackles. I did replace the pin and shackle nuts though, they were 10 bucks.

I did decide to remove 1 leaf from each rear pack. Even after that, the U bolts are just barely fully threaded. Also leaving the bags in. I realized i wouldn't have any bump stops without them, so i just cut their lines.

The front. I noticed the front shackles are bent. The PO didn't pay much attention to the shackles when putting the plow mount in. So i need to move these braces inboard to give enough clearance. Shouldn't be too difficult, just one more dang thing to do...

Hope your having fun removing those rubber bushings. Muhuhahahaha! What a PITA!

I've tried hammering bushings before, EFF THAT! I've learned how to use a torch, and more importantly, when and where to use it.

I just heat up the spring eyes and pins have been popping right out.

I seriously need new shackles though, i managed to keep the threads nice. But the real issue is RUST! All 4 of these shackles are getting thin. I'm not terribly concerned with the anti inversion considering i don't go wheeling but that needs addressed too.

OHMAHGAAAADD!

I don't loathe driving my cruiser now!
No longer does my ass fly off the seat!
Never more shall my head bash the roof!

This thing rides great for leaf spung rig, the front soaks bumps right up. The rear is just a little bouncy, I'm glad i removed one leaf.

You guys don't know what I've been missing. With the bags, i couldn't even start moving without first airing up all 4 bags to correct pressures. Even then, the littlest bumps would send me bouncing repeatedly.

I guess bags should be used as a supplement, not the primary load holder.

Time to start looking into shackles and U bolts. Trying to keep this affordable. I may even make my own shackles. Preferably greaseable.

Very nice! I just cant help myself from a rusty build. Suspension sounds like its night and day. I like to use 3/8th by 2" stock and cut the shackles to 6-7 inches. 5/8 bolts are easier to find than 18mm. Do you have a before and after ride height picture for us?

6 or 7 inches? Ive never really modified suspension before, that isn't too long of shackle is it? Or is that how your shackle keeps from inverting?

I'm heavily on the lookout for 18mm bolts, cheapest so far is low range off road@ 3 bucks/ solid bolt. Then i would have to drill each out myself, but i do still have those gun drill bits.

Of course i forgot to snap a before pic. But really my ride height was just a few inches off the "bump stops." With 0 air in the bags, it sat all the way down on the axles.

Here's about the best before pic i have. I'll get some more after shots after the boys destroy the living room with their presents.

Longer shackles could affect your steering geometry so.......? I have NEVER seen a cruiser invert its shackles yet but the anti-inversion shackles do look cool. Daughters might be more civilized but there is still a big mess in front of me right now. lol. Merry Christmas!
