Bolt on turbo kit

I believe they are a 7 which is 2 heat ranges lower than stock and 1 lower than the MR2s. They are also a copper plug which runs cooler than the platinum and iridium plugs. I'd give them a try, they are only around 2.00 a plug and available at advance auto.

Do you know how the compare to these? I'm not finding much info on their specs. It would be nice to be able to "A/B compare" them.

I have a 92 FZJ80, assume the turbo would work on the 1FZ, or would I need to upgrade to FE..

You should have a 3fe in a 92 which will not accept this turbo. Did you swap the motor/electronics from a newer 80 series?

This may be a silly question , but is anyone planning on running a thicker comedic HG to decrease compression before adding the turbo? Or is everyone planning to run this as-is?

I think "Bolt on" means just that...

I don't really see the need, 9:1 is still pretty low now days. If you were going to be throwing 35psi at it, I could see going down to 8.5:1, but at bolt on boost levels, I think reducing compression would be counter productive. I am a bit of an OCD guy so at 300,000 miles I am not a bolt it on and run kind of guy but Heckraiser did and had no issues.

Well I’m in a unique situation having just scored a very clean white 96 in need of hg.....and figured if I were planning on opting for a bolt on turbo I would explore the idea of a lower compression ratio to allow slightly more boost with slightly less pinging on the same octane if anyone else was showing good results?

I don’t think I will get to the HG until aug. So hopefully a bolt on kit option is on-line and ready to go.....with an optional pulley for a few more lbs of boost. What’s the rough timeframe on this?

I remember a blueprinting thread by @hazard. He took all sorts of measurements and I remember the calculations coming out to ~8.7:1. Cannot remember if that was stock measurements or proposed modded measurements. If stock, 8.7:1 is perfect for boost.

Glad you lost the 200 platform chubby - I love my 3UR for towing, but for us guys who have multi-car houses, a Sequoia TC swap will get you 80% 'there' in a Tundra, and you can add whatever lockers as you like. IMO. Single car guys, sure - go 200.

S/C's bought at a right price are good, but turbo > SC - no extra generated heat, no parasitic loss, no stinkin' pulleys

I had read somewhere 8.5:1....but I’m not recalling any of the specifics as to turbo sizing and boost levels.

I have a turbo nut up the street who had an 80 and had worked up calcs....I will need to pick his brain as this pully sizing is out of my paygrade.

I'm going as is. If I need a new head gasket so be it. I believe others besides @Heckraiser have done with out a new head gasket. @yoda-g3 ? Can't remember if you said you did.

@yoda-g3 was gracious enough to let me drive his rig when I was out there. I really appreciate the experience.

Totally different truck with a turbo; wider power band, better mid range torque, turbo whistle was awesome. We went up a hill and the truck had plenty of power. My truck would have had to down shift to go at the same speed. I think we were around 10.3 psi.

He also had polyurethane bushings which felt real nice.

nope. 92 fzj80 with 1FZ carb. not FE -- mid east spec. including factory ice chest in center console. understand 92 models sold in US were different. Will be shipping this one along with FJ70 4.0L carb model mid/late June back to US. this turbo would be great upgrade rather than going LS or diff conversion.

I know guys have gotten turbos to work with carbs, but I certainly have zero experience with it. I know there are specific carbs that people who do forced induction use. I have no idea if they could be adapted to a carb 1FZ. I have never seen one in person. lol

If you wanted to EFI it I have the ECU to do it. It uses a MAF sensor but no O2 sensors. It's from a stripped down 80 model out of Australia.
