It was very very easy - took me all of 10 minutes once the truck cooled down.

I had to use 13mm wrenches to fit into the tight spaces though.

So no removing the downpipe or access thru the trans tunnel... I must have read how to do it the hard way. Thanks and congrats on the pass!

Don't get me wrong, it was a very tight squeeze. Have your new O2 sensors handy so you understand how to blindly unclip the old ones.

I will do a DIY as I need to put new gaskets in (forgot to have them handy) when I did it this weekend.

finished the carpet floor install, need to get the rears back in there and it will be done!

Thanks @dnp for the great hook up on carpet! Easy install, great price and quality.

Does the carpet have a blue-tint to it like the factory carpet seem to have, or is it just a dark grey? looks great either way!

Also, any other sound deadening under there? How many sq/ft of material did you need to order?

Thanks!

Nope - just the lighting. I have LED lighting in my garage which casts a blue hue in photos. It is pretty great color. I ordered 40 sq ft and it was perfect for me.

Really happy with the carpet, definitely takes some TLC to install, but man the final product is nice. Completely changed the car.

Did quite a bit this weekend. I also received the maintenance history from the previous owner. I will scan the history and upload it on the front page and on a new post. It looks like the AC is shot and will need a full overhaul, expensive but at least I will have some great functioning AC.

I finished the carpet install and reinstalled the passenger and rear seats. The carpet really looks great, once I reupholster the seats and door cards - the inside is going to feel pretty darn new! I am driving the truck down to work tomorrow, to then drop it off at my shop for the radiator installation and valve adjustment.

I sent an email to the shop about the need to weld the suspension cross-tube in there as well and included the solution that I like the most out of the threads I found on here.

My new rear bumper arrives next week, which means I will need to purchase a another wheel and tire. My 5th TE37x won't be here in time, so I will need to go with a steel spare until the real deal gets here.

I received the new gaskets for the thermostat and the O2 sensors, so both of those went in this weekend.

Its crazy how fast I am blowing through my budget :( will be trickling most everything else from until October, then will be regular maintenance until I have saved enough money for a LS1. That'll be a year's worth of setting aside fun money.

My plan is pretty much to have an LS1 in by 2020, which will allow me to pick up a an older BMW as the next project. Love planning!

The black for the grill and headlight surrounds looks pretty good...are you going to repaint the 'yota lettering white to make it pop out more?

I tried to keep it white and messed it up - right now I am thinking of making a nice TOYOTA die-cut in white and applying it that way.

So I was having a muffler shop weld in a new cross-tube and a local TLC mechanic was in there and advised him not to weld in a new cross pipe without welding it through the frame.

He was suggesting that he has seen most that don’t run through the axle fail.

Soo this pushes me way back as far as having the truck ready to go to Park City, UT this weekend. Guess we will be taking the Audi instead :thumbs down:

First update in quite awhile as I have been working on one project for a long time.

After the setback from the shock tube splitting and me not being able to tackle that right away, I moved forward with the rear bumper install as it arrived at my wife's office from 4x4Labs.

I am very pleased with the quality of the bumper and the construction. Install was tough, but it was my first time ever removing structural rivets and cutting steel at all.

Check out the pictures:

I have the tire carrier and the YETI cooler basket sitting in the garage, but I am still waiting on the 5th wheel to arrive and don't think its cool rolling around with a YETI cooler empty on the back - haha!

Its been quite awhile since an update.

I haven't been driving the truck much as I am nervous to do any damage to the rear while the shock tubes are out.

However, I did drive it from the local bus park n ride to home the other day and it stopped shifting on me. The truck hasn't shifted very well since I bought it and I believe it is the kickdown cable. I was able to limp home once engaging 4wd Lo and getting it into any gear.

I am towing the truck to the shop tomorrow to have it checked out and also having the AC Compressor replaced and recharged.

The PO told me there was a leak when I was purchasing it, then sent me the receipts following the transaction that clearly states "needs new compressor" what a dick haha.

Oh well! Now I will have a nice new functioning AC system.

You won't hurt a thing without rear shocks. Especially with your new fresh suspension. It'll ride like a pogo stick, but you won't hurt anything.

Have you done any maintenance to the transmission since purchasing? I'd start with a full fluid flush, new filter, and inspection and possibly adjustment of the kickdown cable first before paying for a few hours of shop rate. Worst that can happen is that you spent $100 on fluid and a new filter and gasket and learned more about your truck.

The rear bumper looks great. In my opinion the 4x4Labs rear is one of the only aftermarket bumpers that has lines that look right on a boxy 60. And don't worry, removing those frame rivets is a pain even for pros.

Thanks - I baselined the truck (new fluids everywhere), only thing I haven’t touched is the fuel filter/pump, which is what I think is making the truck a little hard to turnover at start.

I can’t find any good DIY’s for the kickdown cable - and I’m having the AC taken care of this week so I figured I would have them handle the kickdown cable while it’s there.

Thanks for the compliments on the bumper, I really like the look and the quality seems superb. Those rivets were such a pain, otherwise I would’ve tackled the rear frame C supports at the same time, I was simply miserable though haha.

Well - the shop seems to think its a rebuild that needs to happen.

Quite the bummer. Not sure if anyone would be willing to share what they paid for theirs, but time to start preparing myself for that sticker shock!

Alrighty then!

After nearly three months of the truck not being able to move on its own power, it can. Rebuilt transmission by L1 Automotive and friends proves that I bought a pretty rough running FJ62. I didn't realize how bad the Transmission was when I bought until I drove the truck last night with a fresh rebuild.

I came from all manual vehicles, I've never daily'd an automatic and I guess I assumed an older truck would have a rough automatic.

Well, $4k later, she IS BACK!

Funny, I was looking at your Instagram pictures yesterday and wondered what happened. Love the look of your truck, makes me think about adding the Volks on metallic beige truck.

nice build, the thought crossed my mind to do wool for the seat comvers. After your rebuild how is it shifting through gears? what RPM are you running at down the highway?
