Now would be an easy time to swap the back third.

Hope that q-tip dint come out of your belly button:D

In the future if your MC goes bad an 91-92 80series MC is a good choice. Bolts in will be able to handle rear discs if you ever get around to them.
But prob the best part about them, the cylinders don't pit or rust making them much less likely to leak on a rebuild becuase they are made out of aluminum .

Again good work..

Amen. Repainting the drums. That's classic. All the mocking and teasing about going overboard with the priming and painting is just thinly-veiled jealousy, of course you realize. But, that rig will be too clean for you to want to wheel it. Wanna trade the ARB for the damage multiplier I'm getting from Al? It'll look so purdy on your nice shiny rig when you take it to the mall...:D

LTR,

I also thought about swapping the rear thirds since I am ALL the way there.

https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/45844-my-new-pair-fjs.html see post #111

I ran a 80 series non abs master in my old 40. It had cheby f&rdb.

I am keeping the drums on the 62. (parking brake)

The current 62 master looks good, hopefully I will not be replacing it any time soon.

Does the 80 non abs master work well with stock 62 brakes?

I am almost done with the brakes. During the rebuild, I managed to lose part of the adjuster.

The part missing is a lil cap that mounts onto the adjuster.

My adjusters are fine, I just need (1) lil cap.

Toyota doesn't offer it w/o buying an new adjuster.

The 60 drums are a one banana job, unlike the 40 which has 2 cylinders per wheel.

edit: Thanks vtcruiser60 for sending me this part!

I am rebuilding the knuckles, re gearing and exchanging the h42 for a h41.

The h41 is from an 82 Kiwi Bj42.

During the knuckle job, the 62 4.11 gears are being replaced with the bj60 3.73s.

With the h41/3.73s in place and a set of 33s, I'll have a nice rubber overdrive &

be geared low enough in 1st, 2nd and 3rd to still "get out of the hole".

This route is way cheaper than sourcing a hf55 and all its needed peripherals.

No need to change drive shafts either.

I started the knuckle rebuild today

It is a pretty easy job, and doesn't have to be messy if you are careful.

Notice the card board, plastic bags and toilet paper.

I like to hang a plastic bag from the upper shock mount.

Wearing gloves, I will wipe each greasy knuckle part/piece as it is removed with toilet paper.

I then bag all cleaned/removed parts in a zip lock.

I simply toss the soiled toilet paper in the plastic bag.

The toilet paper does a great job of keeping things clean.

Gunnar let me use his brake line pinchers.

I won't have to be completely re bleed the brakes with these in place.

Note the brake line bracket rivets were drilled out.

I will use a washer, nut and bolt to replace the rivets.

All parts will be cleaned and painted before I reinstall them.

I took my injectors to a local diesel shop to have the nozzles replaced.
Picked them up today and they look great!
I also picked up new bushings and bleed washers.
Big thanks to David of A & D diesel services Gainesville.

Sold the 62 3rds to Sputnik 40.
Here is a pic of his junk.
Thanks Bill, try not to break em. (yeah right)

The kiwi h41 has arrived and yeah, I'm stoked! (note rhd shifter)

It was shipped from Texas Monday afternoon, and showed up today before lunch!

I'll clean it up tomorrow, and pull the h42/xfer as well.

I ordered a stack of parts from Toyota.

I should have everything for the knuckle rebuild, 3rd swap and tranny/ xfer install.

Special thanks to Jose at Gatorland Toyota, I really appreciate your patience/ assistance.

I hope I didn't omit anything...... we'll see.

Tues is the 1 year anniversary of this thread.

Just when I thought your were approaching the finish line, you pile on more mods and work. When your daughter turns 16 and earns her learner's permit, this rig will be just about done. Hey, at least you are making progress on your build. I can't say that myself...

As for that RHD shifter, luckily it is a one piece shifter and you'll be able to put a torch to it to bent it where you want it without worrying about melting the rubber vibration-absorbing insert like on the later shifters. Or...you could just use the LHD shifter from your H42. What color are you gonna paint it???

Um, I just noticed the machine gun mounted to that BJ42 (not to mention the one in his hand)! WTF!?!? Oh, sorry, I forgot....Texas, of course!

I am swapping the top plate and shifter over from the 60 trans.

The 40 top plate and shifter isn't a option in my 62 application.

Toyota called and said my parts will be in today.

I won't be wasting any time putting it all back together.

It is gravy from here.

Git to work slacker:flipoff2:

Despite the rain, I got the h42 pulled.

I am replacing the front input seal and gasket on the h41.

The parts should be here early next week.

In the meantime, I'll be swapping the split case over.

I installed the 3.7 3rds and am working on a knuckle job too.

Got the 60 series top cover and the split case installed on the h41.

Gunnar is helping me put it back in the truck.

We are using my old motorcycle jack to lift it.

:edit: h41 installed Monday..... Hooray!
