If the oil is coming from the steering/vacuum pump its a pretty easy fix. Cheap rebuild kit from Cummins and a few easy hours of labor which includes watching a few youtube videos.

It's an old Gentleman called Greg. Works at A1 Automotive in Georgetown. He says he also did the lines for a blue land cruiser with a chevy v8 and a bunch of wranglers with LS engines in them. Nice guy, knowledgeable and no BS.

Sounds good. I may need some later this summer...

I just ordered the chromorly Hy-steer kit and Cummins seals for the leaky power steering. I won't be back for a few weeks, so won't be able to do anything until then.

Have you looked into going to the 1-ton TRE's with 0.25" wall tie-rods?

no, didn't do much research. I'll look at it and see if that's a better route

Parts are slowly trickling in.

I won't be home for another couple of weeks, so there won't be any real updates until then.

Just got back in from VA Beach. Had a productive three weeks, but it's time to be back home with my toys. Looks like the first order of business will be installing the hy-steer arms for Big Red and re-aligning the steering.
Second order of business will be tackling the sterring pump leak, not really looking forward to that job because it looks like it's gonna get really dirty. I might ask to see if the students at ACC want to give it a try first. It's soo goood to be back home.

Make sure you get the paint off the pins and shim mating surface of those arms. You want all the mating surfaces to be bare, painting it until install is a good idea to protect those surfaces though.

I managed to pinch the vacuum oil line that goes to the engine block. Now that's leaking badly... gonna be waiting on more parts :bang:.

As far as I can see the pump itself is not leaking anymore, but the power steering isn't working. I added power steering fluid, jacked the truck up and turned all the way right then left then right. Still nothing. What am I missing?

Everything pressed back in correctly when you had the pump apart?

Ok crazy theory time! Be gentle in your rebuttals.

Since the leak is happening on the vacuum oil feed line, that means it's taking in air which means there's no vacuum which in turn means no power steering. Is this possible or did I mess it up while putting it back together?

Took the oil feed line out and had a hydraulic one made at Oreillys. Cheap fix for now.

It fit on there with no leaks. hopefully it can withstand the engine block heat.

Happy Memorial Day, if there is such a thing. Since I've been refreshing seals on the rig, I'll be swinging by Cummins in the morning to get an oil pan gasket. Big Red has a small yet annoying leak on the front left side on the engine block. Anyone know if you use any kind of sealant with the gasket?

Mike, All I can find is this.

"use Three Bond 1207-C to fill the joints between the pan rail, gearhousing and rear cover." Nothing else is applied to the oil pan gasket. The torque is 18 ft-lb for the oil pan capscrews. The capscrews are M8-1.25 x 20mm

Must be a Cummins sealer. I'd inquire at the dealer.

Thanks J,
I read the same thing earlier then I read other threads that said you don't need it. I'll ask for sure tomorrow.
