I'll see you this weekend. I'm taking the diesel 80, but won't be wheeling it. I haven't finished swapping out the gears up front and am running 4.10's in the front and 3.70s in the rear. Thank God for manual hubs. The damn 40 is giving all sorts of problems with the carb. I hate CARBS. I wish it had a diesel in it!

That would be great. Thanks for all your help.

No problem!! I'm glad to help :D

The way my truck is parked the sun is glaring in the engine bay, washing out all my pictures. These two came out OK but I'll have to wait till later tonight to get some better pictures.

Lower coolant output sticks straight out towards the PS fender and sits inbetween the alternator ( on top ) and AC compressor ( on bottom ).

With where my engine is placed, the front geartrain is directly above the front axle and the AC compressor has about 3/4" clearance to the frame.

Yes, did you go? I ended up crunching my rear corner, but had a ton of fun.

I took my son for a few hours. I didn't see anyone from Austin there so I figured they were on the trails. I did however get to see some land cruisers I been following here on mud.

ok time for some updates. I went to Edwin's shop today to see the transmission installation. Edwin had to make a few minor mods to the output shaft for it to fit the adapter.

took out the back end to replace with the adapter piece from AA so that it will fit the Toyota transfer case

Adapter and shaft

IMG_4983.jpg

Here you can see that it sticks out about half an inch. So Edwin had to cut out that much from the transmission output shaft

so he measured it, marked it and cut it.

say good to see you. hope you enjoyed haning out with us all day. you are always welcome to hang with us. i will get you pics of the t-case and mount. i think it will be over kill but very simple & some think you can work off of if wanted.

Very sweet! Are you planning on sticking with the vacuum shift split-case or are you converting to manual shift?

Edwin,

Thanks for letting me hang around I had a great time. Most fun I had in a very long time. I learned a bit and saw Big Red come that much closer to completion. I'll try to swing by again when I can.

Johnny,
Ideally I'd want a manual shift split t-case, there's just something about it that says fail proof. However I already own the vacuum activated one and I'm trying to save on funds for other accessories. Unless Edwin has one he's willing to trade, I'll be sticking with the vacuum t-case.

SameSame tcase, just need a linkage and some shifter detent manipulation... I'll let Johnny fill in the blanks.

Awesome rig Phoenician.

Ok small update. took the adapter piece back off to get the correct mount fitted. Will be attaching the transfer case on soon. Edwin is looking into making the transfer case manual instead of a vacuum activated. if it's gonna be time consuming and costly I'll just leave it the way it is. Here are some pics.

Another fast update.

Mounted the transfer case, The TC vacuum was hitting the frame, so Edwin had to straighten up the engine for it to fit. He also ordered a few things for the TC and made a crossmember strong enough to handle the oncoming apocalypse.

Here are some pics.

waiting on parts, hopefully tomorrow

you cant really tell with this picture, but the vacuum pump clears the frame though it's still very close.
