Now that I have plenty of time to work on projects, this is first on my list. This will be my first retrofit. Did you ever get a chance to document the D2S build? Would help me out a ton and make me feel better about tearing these headlights apart. Thanks!

Pretty much the same info as this thread but a little more detailed and I added the 2 Stroke LED in the HB location at the clients request

Doing a retrofit. Looking to do H1 minis vs the D2S. My question is to go quad or not? Seems like it's another $160 or so vs going with the morimoto H1 HID kit for the high beams. Any advantage to going quad other than looks?

Details on the ExtremeLED? That looks like a great idea for offroad lights

re opened and trimmed the housings, it didnt take much. Decided to paint while i had everything open the second time. there is just enough room to clear the lenses for adjustment, but enough to feel comfortable with

I like the look of quads but it is a lot of light!

so, will the projectors put out more light than any HID will? And if I do go quad, do I hook up so all 4 projectors are always on?

I did it so all 4 are always on. How much light..i did 50W D2S's and 35W H1's and it is very bright. unless you aim them differently I would just have them all on. Getting them aligned is not that bad. Just make sure they are level then use the headlight adjustment to bring them up and down.

I'm very curious how you (or anyone) managed to squeeze projectors in the high-beam side? I tried to build a set of quad beam bi-xenon projectors in my Depo housings but had trouble with the high beam side - the reflector bowl is just too shallow to fit a universal (threaded stem) projector without real butchery. I didn't want to hack up the reflector bowl and rely on epoxy to hold the projector in place because I figured I'd never get them both aimed correctly and I worried that constant vibration would cause them to come loose ( lots of Nevada corrugated trails). I am using the Morimoto D2S Mini projectors on the low beams side and was attempting to fit Morimoto D2S Micro projectors in the high beam side. I sent the Micros back to TRS and am going to find a LED unit to replace the Micros. I did some poking around but couldn't find any universal fit (with mounting stem) projectors that were short enough to clear in the high beams side of Depo housings. Since I already cut 30mm holes in the reflector bowls for the projector stems I can't go back to high beam halogens.

I used these 2.0 from Lightwekz but might rebuild them using a single projector and the HB Led projector in the low beam side. Aligning 4 projectors is a PITA

Started this project and ran into a very unexpected issue - anyone else have issues with the chrome on the shrouds being massively fragile ?

This was just from 5 mins of handling it getting the centric ring ground down and test fitted the H1 mini projectors since they don't fit the E46-R shrouds by default. Parts are all Morimoto bought through TRS a long time back (kid life etc. etc.)

Literally just rubs off on your hand..... feels like a bad paint prep job to me.... I mean the chrome on my kids toys made in elsewhere manage to keep chrome on....

Trying to decide if I contact the company or just strip the chrome and murder it out - did anyone else have this issue doing the project ?

Also - does anyone have any pics of where you mounted the ballasts ?

I'm assuming sheet metal self tapping screws into the inner fender - I'm running a dual battery setup so space is tight.

In my opinion you should always wear powder and lint free gloves when doing work inside the housing. The chrome is fragile and its difficult to get fingerprints off.

I have a bunch of that from my photography work and handling prints - lesson learned.

Good news is it's just the shroud and not the actual reflector - Cheap replacement if I have to.

The chrome on the actual depot lenses seems pretty robust - I can use the messed up shroud to test some cleaning products to remove fingerprints - staring with sprayaway and moving up to isopropyl alcohol...

I only found fragile chrome in the Depo reflectors. My ballasts are just zip tied to "whatever" in the battery boxes.
