BFG KO2 Cracking at 10k

I bought them at discount tire. They gave me a hard time with the warranty. I emailed BFG and ended up going to Costco for the replacement. I had about 7k miles on them when replaced, and about 500 on my spare which had been rotated in. It was also cracking in that short time.

I just checked over my K02's and they have the exact same cracks! Do you have the contact email for BFG that you used? I bought my tires through discount tire as well with the full warranty, mine have maybe 5k on them

This is a picture of mine with 17k miles. I didn't see cracks on any of the 4.

They will be due for a rotation soon and I'll have Discount Tire look them over then.

Wow, thanks for posting this.

I purchased 5 BFG AT KO2 about 6 months ago. Have about 6K miles on them. Both my front tires have the cracks. The rear and spare do not. I guess I'll contact BFG.

Ok, I have an update for you guys. I spoke with BFG customer service (1 (877) 788-8899) last week about the cracks and they took the claim, asked that I go back to the shop that sold them to me and have them inspected. Guys took a look, were completely surprised but said yeah this isn't right, called BFG and about 10 minutes later the warranty was approved 100% replacement.

Owner said in 15 years of stocking BFG's they have never had a warranty claim. I asked them about siping and they said this issue is clearly NOT siping. Overall, super pleased with the way it was handled and will continue to support them in the future.

For reference I purchased my tires 8/15 and put ~8k on them. Since the tires were replaced so quickly I didn't have time to get you guys the exact manufacture dates. Happy to answer any questions about the process of getting them replaced.

All the images showing cracks have such a similarity. It makes me wonder if it is inherent to the molding/vulcanizing process somehow. Also how deep are these cracks. If it was an overall rubber quality issue I'd expect to see the failures at more random spots in the tread or maybe even sidewall. Anyone else have thoughts or discussions with BFG on this?

Spent 22 minutes on the phone with BFG warranty dept to see if I could learn anything. Nothing to learn specific to the cracking displayed above and on several other websites if you google it. She said there are no recalls on that tire. Mostly generic answers, tread wear is a 9, cracking can occur from improper inflation or how you store your tires etc etc. In my opinion not what we are seeing above. She wanted to look at this website but it was blocked on her computer.
I'm curious because I want to buy 4 of these but this is holding me back!
I guess all we can do is post manufacture dates and see if there is a trend.

Mine are on 4 tires but not the spare. More prevalent in the front than the rear. Contacted BFG and opened a case. Have over a dozen of these on various other cruisers at the shop and not one issue. Just the wifes. Very odd. All the other tires are over a year old though. Wonder if it's just newer tires. Noticed a few were open more than others and small chunking happening.

Has there been any evidence/reports of this issue in the KM2's(mud terrains)??

Seriously considering the KM2, soon.
I've had dozens of sets on cruisers at the shop and never seen a KM2 failure.

Will be interesting to see if BFG changes their rubber recipe. Would seem pointless to replace tires that cracked with new tires that will crack.
Maybe it was a bad batch-O-rubber at one plant.

Im getting mine replaced (5), but I got shafted 100$ to mount and balance them all at the dealer

That sucks that BFG do not cover the mounting and balance. I paid extra for road force balance. No cracks on mine yet - crossing my fingers that I have the good batch of tires (unlikely).

One thing I did notice was only (3) of my tires were affected. When I ordered them from DT they had 3 in stock and had to order 2 more. The last two seem to be fine, but who knows for sure

Okay so BFG is fighting the claim now, stating that this is a "slice" not a "tear"

Does anyone here who successfully got new tires have appropriate verbiage when I try to hash this out on the phone ?

Edit: turns out long distance tire has not seen anything like it, and thus told BFG it was due to me hitting a road hazard.....so until I get another independent inspection saying otherwise they're only willing to cover 50%

It's neither. It's cracking. The rubber is cracking. Not a slice. Not a tear. But this isn't anything that can be reconciled over the phone. Someone who's authorized to make the judgment call for BFG is going to need to see the tires.

Yeah that I understand that 100%, wish the guy at long distance did.

Long distance told BFG it was a slice.. Due to a road hazard that I hit...Hence this situation. My local guy who's a dealer has been on vacation so now I'm just going to wait till he comes back tomorrow to put this to rest
