I second (or third or fourth) the ARB harness upgrade suggestion. I know there's some mission creep happening here, but the harness is really easy to install and in addition to the safety factor, whatever lighting upgrade you choose will be all the better for it.

Actually not really as many of us have "proven" that the stock harness loses some efficiency with 30yrs of crud and junk on it. The harness upgrade is something that is considered essential to updating the lights as the power output is inadequate beforehand.

After driving at night through fog and mist with my hella h4 kit and 55w bulbs, I've decided that although the pattern is great, it's simply not enough light.

I'm ready to upgrade the harness and go to the 80/100 bulbs.

Mine will be here Thursday. Funny thing was I ran into the same guy this morning (different spot in my route) and saw that he has a new (2014 pretty sure due to running leds on the side not under the lights) Silverado quad cab with a shell on it (why I thought it was a 'burban). He was coming around a corner as I was coming to the stop sign and had to squint incredibly to be able to see. He is lifted slightly, maybe a couple of inches but does not seem like he is that much higher than BeBe. Maybe I am just at the right angle where I sit that the pattern from the stock bulbs hits me perfectly.

Anyways, didn't flash him this morning as I knew were that was going. Hopefully I will run into him on Friday. Since I can't access the FSMs at work, is there a procedure in there for lining the lights up properly? I don't think mine are off but just curious.

Here are some bad pics of my current setup...

I will see about grabbing some better photos in my driveway tonight with my actual camera, maybe even head up to the local trails to take some better pics (less light pollution).

There is a specified beam height that headlights should be aimed at to conform to some standard and there is info on the web on how to do that.

But I don't align mine that way. I just adjust my low beams as high as possible so that I'm not blasting other drivers.
You can never have them perfect anyway. If some weight is added to the back of the car, the beam shines higher. So it's a compromise.

Thanks @Output Shaft I remember seeing those screws and figuring they were for adjusting the light buckets to "aim" the lights. I will try to take a road pic so we can see the throw on these tonight and then another when I have the new bulbs in.

Which HID kit did you use in conjunction with the projectors

Don't remember honestly, but I think not was the standard one, not the extreme voltage.

@Rockymtnreaper Holy sh** that is bright! is the second shot with brights on? if not I bet you piss people (on coming traffic) off all the time haha

To the OP: Hopefully this wasnt already mentioned but If you want the LED's and need the warmth to melt snow/ ice, trucklite has a heated lens model in their line up to solve that issue. I believe it automatically heats up at a certain temp and bellow.
7" Round LED, 2 Diode Headlight, Polycarbonate Lens, Aluminum, Heated Lens, 12-24V | Truck-Lite

For those of us still looking at conventional bulbs (Halogen) I found this place. I have heard of Osram and Narva from motorcycle friends as being the absolute top notch.. Seems like decent prices too H4 - HB2 - 9003 bulbs

That is without brights, but with a nice camera.. and from what my friends say is you don't want to drive in front of me.. but I never get flashed.. The brights are insane.. I really feel bad if I bright anyone. The heated version are awesome, I have the normal ones and live in Colorado, I have only had one issue with them in a blizzard but you just pull over when you get a chance to wipe them off.. Really as long as you arent right behind someone they dont get covered.

I will check the heated LED's thanks for the heads up, those pics make me think I need to move to LED's. Whoa.
How hard is it to wire the light harness and it sounds like ARB is the best bet?

Two fj60s both with the ARB headlight harness and both refitted with lens housings and H4 bulbs. One has IPF lenses and the other Bosch, I prefer the lighting of the IPF over the Bosch. IPF came first and I ran a series of Hella bulbs from the 55/60 up to xx/130 and was never satisfied with the light output. Switching to Osram bulbs made a huge difference. I think I have 55/60 bulbs in the IPF housing and the light output is good.

Osram bulbs in the Bosch housings but the light output, or distribution, to my eyes is inferior to that of the IPFs. I think I'm using 55/60s here also.

Adjustment is critical in upgrading to these housings and I've done that by finding a lonely dark stretch of road and fine tuning the headlight aiming.

I've bought bulbs here Hardware Bulbs H4

Ok where is the damn Light Shoot-out thread. I wanted to look at it again, just out of curiosity. Got my 80/100 Hella bulbs last night but didn't have time to install them as I have been sick the last few days. I will see if I can get some good shots of the old bulbs and the new.

You might want to look into the incredibly bright but cooler LED kits. We installed recently on a mini truck with the 7" round headlight and the light blew us away. Pricing isn't bad either - it was pretty much a plug and play. Youd have to make sure they will fit in your headlight housing first. Doesnt need additional wiring, has plug in ballasts that powers them and fans on the back of the bulb assy to keep it cool. Pricing has come down substantially - you can find these
