You might want to look into the incredibly bright but cooler LED kits. We installed recently on a mini truck with the 7" round headlight and the light blew us away. Pricing isn't bad either - it was pretty much a plug and play. Youd have to make sure they will fit in your headlight housing first. Doesnt need additional wiring, has plug in ballasts that powers them and fans on the back of the bulb assy to keep it cool. Pricing has come down substantially - you can find these

Before you do the conversion double check your state and local laws to ensure that such a conversion is legal. Like some have said on the first page, throwing in the LED bulbs in standard lenses has shown to cause erratic light throw patterns that can inadvertently cause issues for other drivers. You want to make sure you aren't going to blind someone temporarily while driving down the road with what you added and get ticketed.

Finally was able to take a decent pic this morning on the way to work. Mind you this is at about 6am during down one of the local streets. Same street that I drive when I was blinded by the newer Silverado. I had no one around me so I was able to stop, take a couple quick pics and this was the best I got that didn't have a street lamp around me.

This is with my RAMPAGE lenses, SLCFJ62 harness and PIAA Intense White 60/55w H4 bulbs.

On my personal FJ40, I am more than impressed with the light output on my headlights since I upgraded a year ago to 80/90w bulbs. This included upgrading the harness, relays, wiring, and ceramic plugs. I am using the euro spec bus depot housings (Which I also ran in my FJ60 when I had it.) The difference from the 50/60w is substantial which is also affected by the heavier gauge harness I am sure.

Not sure if they're legal(?) but they are in the euro H4 headlight housing that has a sharp beam cut off on top. I adjusted these to keep at a reasonable level. The brights are impressive.

I will say they run hotter than the LEDs but with the ceramic plugs, relays, and heavier gauge wiring there hasn't been any issues in over a year with them.

Bus Depot does not have the Bosch 7" rounds anymore. Now they sell Hella E-code. The Bosch were DOT. If you want the best, get the Cibie, but you'll pay for them.

My 60 could use a headlamp upgrade. The Hella Vision plus lamps for City driving aren't always good on some dark City streets..
How so? I was looking at those as they kept coming up when I was purchasing the bulbs on Amazon.

Also, anyone ever find the shoot-out thread? Still have not been able to locate it. I know that many consider the Cibie to be top notch but cant remember what else was on there.

Let's put it this way....my wife's '16 4Runner headlights illuminate much nicer than my Hella Vision headlamps which throw a less clean white light. It's 's a bit yellow. Looks more time appropriate but it clashes a bit with the white led bulbs behind the front corner driving lenses.

Ah ok... Yeah we have an 11 SR5 and I like the pattern of its lights better. So looks like the Bus Depot and/or the Cibie are the way to go. Not many traditional H4 lens options anymore that are well known.

Life Span? - I'm rolling with "ARB 4X41 IPF Clear 12V 80W/60W Fatboy H4 Bulb" and they burn out once a year. Trying "OSRAM - Night Breaker Unlimited H4 Super White Halogen." About 1/4 the price of the IPF equivalent. And brighter per the white garage door test.

Please keep us posted. The ARB bulb lifespan is certainly short. I have yet to replace the Hella Vision plus bulbs but I am looking for a whiter light. Can you post illumination pictures?

Sure can and I still have one in each side. It'll be tomorrow 'cause the kids are wanting the chirtmas lights to work ; O

I had hella lenses, with a variety of bulbs...up to 130/100. Waaaaay better than stock. Then I switched to Cibie, and bulb for bulb these put more light on the road in dark/wet nights we see in the PNW. Bulb I like best is the osram 85/80. Upgrade harness of course. Direct fused wire from alt to battery to maximize voltage. But, our 2014 subie has better stock lights by far. I think I have optimized what you can do with halogen bulbs in a 7" lens. From all of the posts I've read, Mace's upgrade seems like the one that moves closest to what's common in a modern car.

Cibie h4 are not to spendy $40 each

It's funny, I used to gripe quite a bit about pricing of headlights. But I really have to say, having the extra light is a wonderful thing. Lighting is a safety issue more than anything else to me. I won't complain much any more lol.

I first started with Hella e code with 55/60 bulbs. Not a huge increase in light output but massive difference in light output control. Low beams worked great for mountain driving in the fog and snow. There was no upward glare. I then purchased one of @slcfj62 harnesses which made a huge difference in light brightness. I leave the 55/60 bulbs in out of courtesy to other drivers on the road (its no safer if I can see them but they are blinded by my lights). I also run a pair of KC 100w lights on the front that are only armed with my high beams so if driving in the mountains I can turn both my high beams and those off at the same time.

How long do those bulbs last you?
