i need something capable of indirect heat. i just wasted a nice rack of ribs on a cheap two burner.

anyone recently wade thru the grill market?

I like my 6 year old Weber Genesis because I can get parts for it.

I know people with more expensive grills, but they do the same stuff I do in mine.

12 year-old weber genesis -- replaced the burners once and still going strong...

Weber performer, gas ignition, charcoal grill. Love this thing, no more lighter fluid. It takes small propane bottles to ignite the charcoal. I have converted it to a five gallon propane tank.

I have a Kenmore 4 burner in stainless steel that I really like, for a gas grill. If I have the time, I'll use my big charcoal grill every time, though.

I have a six burner Jenn Air and love it for off burner cooking, Its on natural gas but real nice setup.

I has this... Its hooked up to gas. I burn everything:mad:

I used to use a weber gas grill, works great, always starts, and cooks evenly. That said, I switched to charcoal and have never looked back. IMHO, charcoal (by that I mean wood) makes much better tasting food. It takes a bit more work, but once you learn how to use it, is great. Temperature control is not hard, you just have to remember that the more air, the hotter it gets.

For the money, you can't beat a Weber. For $150 you can get the one touch gold, which cooks great and has the ash catch so you don't have a mess. For $350 you can get the performa series which uses propane to start the charcoal making it even more convenient.

What I really recommend is the Bubba Keg (Steel Keg Barbeque). It is a copy of the Green Egg, but at a better price point. The Steel Keg is an updated Bubba Keg and runs $599, but you can get the Bubba Keg from Home depo on closeout for $449, or if you ask nicely, $399 in some cases.
