sometimes you get lucky with them, but now a days they are getting cheaper. Best stay with what works...Weber or a Charcoal grill

when I first fired it up, I cranked it and closed the lid to burn off whatever might be in there... according to the hood thermometer, it was up around 625 degrees...

My Bubba keg will get over 700 degrees without batting an eyelash. Have seen 775 on it when fully open with the right charcoal, great for searing.

Those Traeger grills are expensive and the metal is about as thick as tinfoil. They just look (to me) to be pretty low quality. I don't want a grill or a smoker I can't leave outside or worry about it rusting away.

Have you seen one in person? Not tin foil at all. Granted, it's not 3/8 plate steel, but they're not flimsy at all.

Yep - I checked them out at the local ACE Hardware. For that kind of money, I expected something beefier. Hell, they might be tits, and I might buy one some day, but that was the first time I had seen or heard of them, and I sure wasn't gonna plunk down that knid of loot on something that seemed poorly constructed.

The ACE monkey probably had everything thumb tight. I agree, you'd think a thing that looks like a steel barrel would be super hefty, but it's sturdy enough and grills/smokes very well.

My one beef (ha) with them is their digital timer module is an additional 200 bones. Really?

I don't know if it is "grill" in the traditional sense of the word, but the house I bought last year came with a built in Holland hooked to the natural gas line... It is amazing. I have no idea what one would cost new. I fully expect some smart ass comment from the meat guy, but I love the thing.

By all accounts, those are awesome grills - take some figuring out how to control the temp, though. You can't adjust the burners, can you?

More about slow cooking...
